I have already decided that agribusiness is something I do not want to pursue and my interests have led me to believe that construction management would be a better fit for me. Open enrollment for freshmen starts soon and I want to choose classes that will sort of make the change or major process less tedious when I am eligible to request one. However, I have been calling the construction management advising center for a few days now to get some advise on what classes to take but they won’t answer! I have created my own PASS which is basically just general ed and a pre calculus course. I chose mostly general ed because I want classes that transfer over and so I don’t fall behind. I took AP stats instead of pre cal in high school so I chose pre calculus so I can get the pre reqs done for calculus 2 which is a support course for construction management. SO any tips on what classes to enroll in to help me change my major?

Look at the course catalog, which can be found here : [Catalog Home < California Polytechnic State University](http://www.catalog.calpoly.edu/)

and start taking the classes required for the CM major that you’re qualified for. Taking GE’s is good too.

I’m thinking of taking 2-3 GEs and an elective. Is it true that if you take one class that doesn’t count for your current major at all you can get in trouble? Like 1st quarter I want to take a D1 and D3 course with a pre calculus class. Would that be a good idea or should I find some different GEs?

I don’t think you’ll have any problems not taking a class that counts towards your current major for one quarter. Usually I think the policy is that if you go 3 consecutive quarters without taking a major class (provided you haven’t completed your major coursework and are just finishing up GE’s or something of course), then you might have a problem. But if it’s just one quarter, I think you should be ok. You can double check with an advisor if you want to be super safe. The classes you want to take sound fine. D1 and D3 courses are usually not the most time consuming, so if you think you can handle it, you might want to consider adding a fourth class, but it is really up to you. I only took 12 units my first quarter (all liberal arts type classes though) and ended up having a lot of free time, which was nice I guess, but I got kinda bored sometimes. Although if you’re planning to get really involved with some activities, like clubs or sports, or try to get a job during your first quarter, then 12 units is probably fine.

Agbusiness has 19 free electives so wouldn’t those unrelated classes count as electives anyway?
