Hi. I really want to attend Ross Business School at Umichigan for college. And I was wondering if I should take AP Physics and Calculus. Also, would 2 AP classes my junior be too weak for my application. Or would i need to rack it up to 4? Thanks!
You should talk to your guidance counselor to see what would be considered a rigorous course load at your school. It’s not a race to get the most APs, but generally schools like Michigan prefer at least 6-8 APs.
I would say yes though to calculus, and most competitive schools want to see bio, chem, and physics on the transcript.
6-8 APs in one year, or all together? Because I am also nervous they won’t see the rigorous courseload I take my senior year.
All together. With the caveat that it also depends upon what your HS offers and what other applicants from your HS have. But yes, you should have calculus, if offered. In general, follow their recommendation:

Based on your other thread, you’re a freshman now. Worry about senior year classes when you’re a junior. But you list your senior year courses on the application, so AO’s will see it.
All together!
And if you are a freshman, relax and enjoy HS!
Thanks so much guys! And it is true I am thinking too early. Lol. But im just worried because i will not be able to take as many APs due to the reason my math isnt that great.
As a freshman in HS it is way too early to think about specific colleges (especially the hyper-competitive ones). You don’t even have one full year’s GPA and you have no standardized testing.
You also need to recognize that HS should be an experience in and of itself – a time of learning and growth and not just a 4 year college application prep experience.
It is great that you take school seriously and know that college will be on your horizon, but it is too early to start planning for specific colleges. I would highly recommend that you get off of CC (except the HS forum page) until your junior year.
For now you should focus on:
–Working hard, learning, and doing as well as you can in the most challenging curriculum you can manage.
–When the time comes study for standardized tests.
–Continue your involvement in activities you care about and work towards making meaningful contributions to those activities.
–Enjoying spending time with your family and friends.
When the time comes (junior year) honestly asses your academic stats (including GPA, standardized tests, course rigor) as well as your financial needs and apply to a wide range of reach, match, and safety schools that appear affordable (you will have to run a net price calculator for each school you consider) and that you would be happy to attend. You need to expand your horizons and recognize that there are many wonderful schools out there where you can have a great 4 year experience and get where you want to go in life.
And work on your math skills. They matter in business studies and for real life business.
What king of math though. Is Calculus needed? Also would it hurt me if I can only take 3 APs junior year?
3 is plenty junior year. It also depends on you and your final goal and if you know what you want to major in. Each year just keep challenging yourself with classes with rigor. Each year add more. AO will notice this. Also… Do well in these classes also.
To answer something specific you said, your college app includes a lots of what courses you are taking senior year. So they will see your course load rigor including that year. And yes, take at least through AB Calc (BC if your school has it). Ross does care.
To answer something else. Michigan is a calculus centric school and prides themself on their calculus curriculum. Being strong math wise will only help you. Getting yourself to Calc 1 will only be a plus in their eyes. Get the help you need to get there.
