Senior Year Courses

By the end of junior year i’ll have taken three AP courses but senior year I may not take any because I plan on doing a three period business internship, will this look bad for colleges? Or does real work experience make up for it?

Which colleges do you have in mind?

University of Michigan is my dream school

I would recommend contacting them and asking what would make you a better candidate for them. Even if they don’t give straight answer, you’ll still catch their drift.

But in general do you think it is worth it because I still will have had three AP courses?

As a rule of thumb if your school offers 10 or more AP/IB courses then taking only 3 isn’t going to get “most rigrous load” nod from your counselors. Most good colleges like to see that.

However, you can always check with your counselor about internship turning out to be a pro or con for last year’s interns.

It depends in large part on what courses (including APs) are offered at your HS. Top schools like applicants to take a rigorous courseload. The best person to speak with would be your guidance counselor.

if your school offers AP classes senior yr you should take at least a couple if you can do well in them

Try to take as many as possible without failing… I have seen some people (around 5 in each grade) taking 15 AP courses so consider your ability and challenge yourself.

The issue is I don’t have space in my schedule for any since I am planning on doing a three period business internship

What would you do in that internship?
Would you be paid (and if so: more than if you worked at Walmart?)
What’s your current GPA and SAT/ACT score?
You should be taking one each from English, Math, Foreign Language, Social Science, Science - will you be able to do that if you do the internship?

Nechia…call admissions, or go see them in person over spring break. Best wishes.
