what college can i get into with a 2.9

hello im a junior at a private school and my cumalative gpa is 2.9 i was wondering at this point what kind of colleges can i be looking toward? is vanderbilt too far out of my reach or no?

Vanderbilt is a top national university, you should look into some state schools and transfer or if your local community colleges are a good feeder like some CC's are to UCLA, UCSD you might consider that path as well.

hm so i still have a semester and senior year left. is it possible to raise my gpa to a 3.1 or is that reaching near impossible

Yeah you still got a year left. A 2.9, you would probably be able to get into MOST State Schools in CA.

you can raise it to even a 3.2 --3.3 if you get all A's , and since in high school APs are weighted more, you could maybe raise it even higher.

so lets say i get like a 3.6 for the next two semesters (last semester of senior doesnt count i believe) how high would that raise my grade point average?

edit: oh yeah im def not taking any ap's itll most likely bring my gpa down than up

you can easily raise 2.9 to 3.0+

you should be able to go to cal state schools if u a ca resident.

sorry i live in cincinnati i stumbled upon these forums in a google search. i am not too positive how the cumilative gpa is calculated. is it just straight up the average of all my semester gpa's?

GO TO UNH SO YOU CAN GO TO SCHOOL WITH WILLIE COLT!!!!!! WILLIE COLT IS A NEW BREED OF MAN!!! 4:10 MILE!!!!!!! 2.9!!!!!!!! 1500!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

UNH!!!!!!!!!!!

but seriously, I bet you could get into UNH.

Make your ass survive some AP classes. If you can't keep a strong GPA in those type of courses, how are you going to survive college?

To be honest, Vandy is wayyyyy out of reach. You would need a 3.6+ with great SAT scores to match.
Try to pull your GPA above a 3.0. Some state schools might be a good fit for you.

not really..it depends on the school, for example, my school, vandy admit rate for 2.8-3.1 is 6 out of 8...

Your school is an aberration. You need a 3.7+ to be competitive.

Very easily! I didn't take a single AP course in high school (with a 2.9 GPA) and graduated college with a 3.5+ and am in a top-notch PhD program. AP courses aren't the only thing necessary to prepare students for college.

I'm not able to suggest schools though based on my experience, admissions has become much more cut-throat since when I applied 7 years ago. You may want to check out Indiana University, if you apply early in the admissions cycle you would have a good chance.

There are plenty of schools that you could still get into.

You should have worked your ass off instead of spoiling your GPA.

Don't rub it in, Frenchy.

Now, to the op, what are your test scores and such...your GPA is still high enough that a hook could make you shine.
