The movie was taken in Christ Church College (at least the entrance, from what I know. Probably more scenes were actually taken in here too)

thankyou so much! i didn't know where to search for colleges and i found this and i have found so many

i'm basing the college i go to alot on if its hogwartsy, i'm going to a very boaring high school and i've always wanted to go to somewhere like hogwarts, not to be harry potter, but because i want to go to an amazing school, i love old buildings, being out in the forest, secret nooks, and big gorgoues beauitful libraries

its a bit of a promblem because not many school have that and the type of classes i want to take

but thankyou!

ps. yale and oxford seem the most harry potter like to me atleast

The libraries at Dartmouth are pretty Hogwarts-esque.

Duke's west campus definitely reminded me of hogwarts.

for the record: this is the most amazing thread...EVER.

frary dining hall at Pomona is hogwartsesque, but not so much the rest of the school (more mediterranean architecture, though the underground tunnel network and the secret rooms are really cool)

this is kinda off-topic, but who is waiting at midnight to get their hp 7 books?
i refused to read HP6, but i'm definatly dressing up for 7 !!

Pitt... there's even a Facebook group dedicated to it

I've pre-ordered my book. Dressing up! And getting it at midnight ^^

Oh, and even though there's not really other similarities, Columbia has "secret" tunnels. They're not really that secret, hence the quotations.

Yale- hands down. Even has the library with the books of the ancients. History is looking like a mighty interesting profession the more I scour these boards!

the view of cornell on the hill at night from cyuga lake definently reminds me of the scene in harrypotter when they get off the train and row the lake across to hogwarts.

plus the suicide bridge always remind me of the changing staircases.

Universities in the United States are too youngeven those that are made to look old don't feel ancientto really resemble Hogwarts. In my view, Hogwarts represents a hodgepodge of different elements from Oxford, Cambridge, and St Andrews. The scale of architecture and much of the décor is reminiscent of Oxford and Cambridge (in fact much of the movie was shot at Oxford). Both Oxford and Cambridge have a collegiate system, which perhaps is represented by the various groups in the movie. Hogwarts' remoteness, architectural style, and natural beauty, though, remind me of St Andrews. Further, the small student body at St Andrews creates an intimate environment, which seems to be depicted in the movie. All three have many traditions including balls, formal dinners, scarves, garden parties, etc. that resemble life at Hogwarts.

Columbia looks absolutely nothing like hogwarts but has a sweet underground tunnel system. You can find the original centrifuges for the Manhattan Project down there.

Wellesley is seriously THE hogwarts lookalike. Dorms, dining, appearance, everything (except for house system). Heck we even have a lake! :)

People don't usually think of Hogwarts when they think of Northwestern, but these vintage photos might make you change your mind.
