yep university of chicago and i agree about bj, very hogwartsy. also the way there are house tables in the dining hall... long rectangular just like in hp where the people in your house sit.

Library = Sanborn at Dartmouth

yale -- for sure, i went to an open house and they even compared their residential college system to Hogwarts.

No one has mentioned Fordham University. Almost every building is gothic. They also have a few residential colleges like Queens Court for freshmen.

Yale tops UChicago, hands down.

yale-- their dorms reminded me of the hogwarts dorms
plus they have that underground pathway thingy

what the heck is wrong with you...HOGWARTS is freakin Oxford University you wierdos

Yale is based on Oxford and Harvard and Pton are based on Cambridge

Duke is based on Pton

umardarr -- The question wasn't what university Hogwarts is based on, but which ones resemble it. No need for animosity.

The 9 residential colleges at Rice compete in "Beer Bike" which culminates "Willy Week." Perhaps after the mishaps which occured during the alumni race this year, they should consider Quidditch.

I'm sure its been mentioned, I can't be bothered to read through all 7 pages of this, but my cousin goes to Durham, where Harry Potter was filmed.

Yale- they have a house system with gothic architecture

For some reason Cornell's west campus reminds me of hogwarts, and Willard Straight Hall reminds me of the grand hall.

nobody has posted uchicago pictures so I will find a few...

Personally I think that harper library has a very hogwarts feel to it

Well...I now see why there haven't been any pictures of the fabled Burton Judson Dining hall...becuase I am quite handy with searching and I have not been able to come up with any. There is one in the acceptance packet that actually shows the dining hall...

Tomorrow, maybe I will scan some pictures. I was given a 1991 UChicago calender and its got some hogwartsesque pictures of hull gate, harper (better than the above ones), the cloisters, and some other things.

YALE! most def.

... virtual tour highlights the campus' Hogwarts-feel?

Lovely. I wish I had looked into Bryn Mawr during the application process.

Definately Princeton.

Glasgow,Oxford,Cambridge,Durham (one of the halls of residence is a castle!),Edinburgh,St.Andrews,Royal Holloway.

I'm not too sure about what was said about Hogwarts being based on St Andrews. I'm sure that it would have been based on Oxford and Cambridge, both of which come closest to resembling Hogwarts. As some poeple have said, much of the filming was done at various Oxbridge colleges.

I go to the University of Exeter and I can certainly say its nothing like Hogwarts. Actually, Hogwarts more closely resembles a public school (thats a top private school in England) rather than college.

The famed Burton Judson dining hall

Please check Ivyqueen's reference. great thread on Parent's forum about HW u

I go with Caltech. 7 houses, distinct personalities. The 4 oldest houses have alleys, murals, and a distinctive flair.
Walked in to find dorm room with first bureau on floor, bed spiraled above, then a red couch floating above, another chest, and a bed. Maybe some engineers built it, but clearly touched by magic
Concerts held in Dabney Hall--like you've stepped back in time, or a typical HW's hall
I won't even comment on the underground tunnels, except to say that one goes to a lovely restuarant in Pasadena, Hailey's
