What college most closely resembles Hogwarts?

this has got to be my favorite thread on here

Ummm...Yale.

Yale=dreamy sigh...

I really think Caltech's houses should get more recognition here. Of course architecture is not at all similar but the idea is there. My tour guide actually said that the best way to explain the Caltech houses is as if it were Hogwarts.

Anyway a little excerpt from an L.A. Times article:
"On the admissions website is a revealing statement by Robin Deis (class of 2004), describing the school for prospective entrants: "Have you read/seen Harry Potter? Have you seen X-Men? That's what Caltech is — a school of (mentally) superpowered mutants.""
A bit of a requote I suppose. The article isn't really about comparing Caltech to Hogwarts. A copy of the full article can be found here:
http://www.ntskeptics.org/news/news2005-03-30.htm
Just search for Caltech to go to the right article.

The dining hall at Grinnell in Iowa looks exactly like that of Hogwarts! It is actually almost identical, complete with the colored flags and everything! I think it is even more Hogwarts-esque than Kenyon...

DEFINATELY Yale, without a doubt. Lol, when I was on my college tour for Yale, everything resembled Hogwarts.
-How the school divides the freshman class into 11 houses
-Underground passageways from each house to somewhere when there's too much snow outside
-Long dining tables and how each house eats with their own house
-and we can't forget that it was built by the British, lol.

But of all the colleges I visited, Yale definately takes the cake for being very-Hogwarts resembled.

Trinity College Dublin is very similar to the Harry potter school.

Though it doesn't look like Hogwarts, heres something interesting.

 1. And they're "residential colleges," not "houses." That's - shudders - Harvard. :p

I think DUKE looks like Hogwarts. Omg, when I visited the campus...I fell in love with it mainly because of how beautiful and "magical" (yea I realize it sounds corny) the buildings were. Duke has a lot of neo-gothic buildings and this gorgeous chapel that all just too resembles Hogwarts.

Well, it already looked quite nice, like Hogwarts to begin with. But apparently, recently some Wellesley girls did a late-night campus-wide prank (or "hack") a la the MIT kids, in which they playfully altered or put up signs and wrote messages that had to do with the Harry Potter series: writing in marker on bathroom mirrors the Mirror of Erised description, for example, or writing chalk hearts on the sidewalk with "HP + GW" in them (Harry P. plus Ginny Weasley).

It takes forever to load and is really long, but here's a slideshow so you can see for yourselves: http://www.wellesley.edu/Chemistry/Flick/harrypotter.html

I thought it would be nice to put up a link on this thread, as the students themselves, for a day, dressed up Wellesley even more like Hogwarts.

Check out this link to pictures of Rice. h00t!

Princeton really does

u get off teh plane..take a train...like hogwarts express to the prineton junction...like hogwars station..u get on a dinky..which resembles the hogwarts carriage that take u up to the castle..and get off at princeton..which is like a huge castle!

Someone has probably mentioned this, but Kenyon's dining hall was looked at by Warner Bros. as a possible great hall site before they decided to go all-British.

Others include old New England universities. Especially women's colleges: Bryn Mawr, Wellesley, Mt. Holyoke.

this is the coolest thread I've seen!! _ Hogwarts-looking colleges rock! thanks for sharing all these uber cool pics...

The Old Library at Trinity College Dublin

http://www.timestream.net/2004_Eurovacation/Photos/1.%20Misc%20Travel%20Shots/1.%20Misc%20Travel%20Shots-Images/15.jpg

FYI:

Destinations in UK where you can find Harry Potter film locations:

http://www.historic-uk.com/DestinationsUK/HarryPotter.htm

Bryn Mawr College buildings are castles, complete with flags. But you have to be a girl to get in. On the other hand, if not female, you could go to Haverford
(the entire campus is an arboretum), and take as many classes as you like at Bryn Mawr, one mile away.

DEFINITELY YALE (and Oxford).

I am not I if THIS is not Hogwarts:
http://files.pubaf.yale.edu/.portweb?quickfind=IOY11_DSC_0134.jpg&template=Preview&catalog=web

University of Chicago

Looks very Hogwarts-esque with the gothic buildings. When I was on a tour there, the guide said something about the library being commonly referred to as "Hogwarts" because it looks so much like the Great Hall.

this thread is very cool and all the pics are great, thanks everyone

oh and p.s. correct me if im wrong but I believe The Old Library at Trinity College in Dublin was the basis for the Jedi library in the second Star Wars prequel, Attack of the Clones. If anything, the link provided by jedipsohn looks a lot like it.
