is it true undegrad doesn’t matter?
im also north indian- where would i fit in? im fine with alabama despite being a minority?
my parents want me to go to UCSD cuz its prestigious and in CA, but i think its hard?
I got 32 ACT, 3.75 gpa UW, 4.3 fully Weighted
HELP MEEEE PLEEEAAASSSEEEE!!!
How serious are you about being premed?
How much does each university cost if you subtract scholarships and grants (but no loan)?
If you’re 100% sure you have what it takes to become a doctor, pick UCR; Alabama would be a good medium choice in terms of costd, premed, and opportunities if you don’t make it to med school.
Im 90% doctor, 9% dentist, 1 % chemical engineer
mostly i wanted to be doctor whole life, but i recently like dentist and part of chem engineer, but im mostly confident about going into medicine.
rough costs-
Tulane- 53k/yr
Alabama- 20k/yr
UCSD/UCI/UCD- 32k/yr
UCR- 27k/yr
i heard cheaper schools with good science programs are best but idk
The good thing about Alabama is that I am chemE, so it is a backup (i applied bc it was interesting) in case i don’t go to med school. I guess Tulane is a good choice but it’s out because its too costly…
MYO S1634, why do you say UCR, or even Alabama versus my other choices.
Any other people have advice…
PLEEAASSEEE
As a ChemE major, you get free tuition PLUS 2500 per year. You did put eng’g as your major correct? If not, then do so before May 1st and you get the extra $2500 per year.
Your net costs at Bama would be about $15k per year max.
My son was a ChemE premed at Bama. He’s graduating from med school in May.
http://financialaid.ua.edu/cost/
Here, UA’s total cost was about 47322$
I have a 26950$ presidential scholarship plus 2500$ engr scholarship (forgot about that mom2collegekids)
Thats basically $17872.
idk how its 15k, unless COA isn’t 47322 (wat it says on website)
Also congrats to your son mom2collegekids, and can you tell me about his high school stats?
Also is chemE manageable for premed? I want to have a decent social life, not just study but many of friends claimed engr majors are too hard for med school.
People give me advice…
Direct Cost In-State Out-of-State
Tuition $11,270 $27,750 and fees
Room $8,850 $8,850
Board $4,200 $4,200
Direct Cost $24,320 $40,800
Indirect In-State Out-of-State
Books $1,200 $1,200
Trans $1,736 $2,876
Misc $2,380 $2,380
Loan Fee $66 $66
Indirect Cost $5,382 $6,522
As you can see, there’s padding in these estimates. You don’t have to choose the most expensive housing. Standard doubles are $3k less.
Books can be rented or bought used
Transportation need not cost $3k per year…even coming from Calif
There wouldn’t be a loan fee if you don’t borrow
The misc $2400 just depends on how thrifty or spendy you are.
If your other schools aren’t putting in that high of indirect costs, then it’s harder to compare.
And if the other schools are including estimates for standard doubles housing then it’s also more difficult to compare.
Why not UCR though? It seems good.
Also is Alabama good for Indians, despite the fact that I am a minority?
How is chemical engineering premed track at Alabama- is it manageable?

My son’s high school stats were high. He was also a Presidential scholarship recipient. His SAT was around a 2280-2300. He had a GPA around 4.7
Being an eng’g premed is a challenge. He did have some fun, but he had to also be disciplined. The same while in med school…some fun, but also disciplined.
Man u got into UCSD!!
many premeds go there, so it must be gr8!
they have many hospitals and volunteer/research opps and you will learn so much!
Its better than LA, especially for Human Bio!
Why go to UCR or Alabama when you receive high quality education for 32k at San Diego!
Plus its fun cuz SD has gr8 weather plus zoo, seaworld, mexico, etc…
As a premed there’ll be little time for fun, in particular trips to Mexico.
Why UCR? Because it’s currently the best place to be a premed at UC’s. Premeds have more support than elsewhere and there’s a med school on campus with some priority admission for their own Premeds.
If not, Alabama because it’s cheaper and you’ll avoid the UC premed bloodbath. (California is the hardest state for med school admission.)
ChemE is difficult and getting a med school worthy GPA in engineering is really hard. It’s not impossible but it’s definitely not common to get 3.6+. However you could switch majors and still be premed.
i guess UCR and Alabama are top choices…
Is alabama good for indians?
anyone think i should go to another college?
i also got into UC Berkely for art but its hard to switch so i aint going
Does anyone have an approximate number of premeds entering Alabama?
Also how many seniors have gotten into/ are going to a med school?

Hi,
Are you asking how many applicants get into med school each year?
Bama has consistently said that 85% of their applicants who have a 3.5+ GPA and a minimum of a 30 (old) MCAT get into a US MD med school each year.
However, like most schools, Bama has no power to prevent a student with crappy stats from applying. If someone has a lousy GPA and applies, Bama (and other schools) can’t stop them.
Admission stats mean nothing to YOU.
How are YOU affected if a lousy student applies and gets no acceptances?
How are you affected by high acceptance rates if you goof-off in college and get lousy grades?
