So, i wanna know, what oher universities would you advice with strong film/cinema major?

http://www.academyart.edu
so, what do you think about it?

NYU has a good one.

have a look at Emerson

University of Chicago. They show films two weeks before they're released to the public in their 350-seat, Dolby equipped theater. For the premiere of Brokeback Mountain, Ang Lee came to lecture. The student film scene at this school is AMAZING.

http://filmstudiescenter.uchicago.edu/

Not sure if it's a major, though - more of an experience.

guys thanks for your replies
NYU - i dont want, ny is too big for me.
i've visited Emerson's site - i like it, and i have already read about Emerson in the E.Fiske guide to colleges, where were given good reviews of emerson.
University of Chicago - very interesting.
thanks again, now i'm cramming info about these colleges.
if someone knows another film schools, pls. list them.
i've just found Columbia College Hollywood http://www.columbiacollege.edu/
what do you think?

Wesleyan Univeristy has one of the best undergrad film departments in the country.

Florida State University

Chapman University in Orange, CA. Recently opened a $40 million film/tv production center with state-of-the-art stages, editing rooms, the whole ball of wax. See: http://ftv.chapman.edu

Even before this new building, Chapman has had a strong reputation for preparing students for careers in film and television and is very well connected to the business in L.A.

UT austin has a very famous radio/tv/film program. check it out
http://rtf.utexas.edu/undergraduate/admissions/external.html

USC has a great film program

I second Weskid... Wesleyan's program is awesome. This year alone, it has alums represented at the Oscars and Sundance both.

USC is great, obviously.

I know people who have gone to Emerson and have been very happy with the experience. For a film major, it is not so much about learning as it is about making connections and impressing the right people. I believe that the last semester at Emerson is in LA, I believe as an intern. They also have great programs abroad, they own a castle somewhere in Europe.

NYU has a good rep, but I haven't heard the best things about the atmosphere.

UCLA doesn't have USC's reputation in this field, but the LA location may be attractive from an industry standpoint. Florida State's program is quite selective, and apparently desirable because they fund the cost of the senior film project for the small number of students in the program.

thanks again guys, this information is really important for me.

UT Austin has revolutionized the film school model with the University of Texas Film Institute. Students are given highly specialized filmmaking experience on actual commercial films produced through Burnt Orange Productions, a private for-profit company. The production of feature films is incorporated into the curriculum and trains students in specialized areas. This new film school model more closely matches the practices of the feature film industry, resulting in graduates more effectively trained in real-world aspects of filmmaking. The 2006 release of "The Quiet" was the first major film produced through this collaboration.

From a 2003 press release about the new program:

[quote]
“The University of Texas is revolutionizing the shape and form of a film school with a boldness worthy of a modern day D.W. Griffith,” said Jack Valenti, president and CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America and one of many entertainment industry luminaries serving on The University of Texas Film Institute advisory board. “Burnt Orange Productions is burning bright.”

Northwestern University has a great radio/tv/film major.

i consider to a be film editor in future, cutter. you know, directing is a very responsible cause, and as i suppose, i should be an editor firstly, and study for an film editor, cutter and i like it ( not professional level yet, but tried edting as an amateur, and i really like it), and after graduation, i could find a job easier, right ?.So after all those words said, what other(or from earlier mentioned) universities would you advise with a film edting major?

Northwestern. It has relatively large network (outside USC/UCLA) in LA. Actors/actresses like David Schwimmer (Friends) and Megan Mullally (Will and Grace) went there.

Read under the side note: Joey Goes To NU. :D
