Like someone else, I would never go to a school with a religious affiliation. Or a school with a predominantly white student body (i.e. more than 80%). Or any school in Texas.

Haha you call us out for being passionate about basketball, and in the same paragraph you try to use a basketball argument against us? Who has more national championships? Who has a better record in the series? Who dominated Dook at home for four years in a row? That would be UNC, the University of National Champions.

Right…thats why UNC won the academic bracket that USA Today posted prior to the tournament. UNC is ranked #30 by USNWR, hardly the “bottom”. I would much rather pay tens of thousands of dollars less to attend a school that is not dominated by guidos and has a better atmosphere overall.

USC…i could never attend a school that once called itself the Stanford of the west :)

The one thing my son has found is that many who claim Duke to be overrated may be the same folks who may have been rejected by Duke.

^
nope, i was accepted, and, in my opinion, it is overrated as an academic institution. there is a higher proportion of kids who go to duke who are smart but aren’t that interested in academics (as compared to HYPSM). they want to get decent grades and to party. they don’t seem to want to engage in much discussion outside of who threw up last night and who hooked up with who. there are also the academic types, but the result is a pretty big divide on campus.

duke gets a somewhat inflated ranking bc of its basketball team and alumni donations, i think. it is still an excellent school!! it’s just not HYPSM.

i couldn’t ever go to BU. my brother did and i couldn’t tolerate what he kept saying.

UNC-CH. i actually like the school a lot but it would be like high school v 2.0

NYU. I got my fill of New Yawkahs when I went to school in Boston. Can’t even imagine going to school right in the middle of their breeding grounds.

I live in the South and most people think NC and SC are the south and it is. Texas is def. not the South and is not in the East Coast. It snows in Georgia sometimes and it’s the south. Also, people consider Atlanta the capital of the south. It is by far one of the biggest cities in the South/most growing. I wouldn’t consider Florida the south, but maybe Northern. I lived in South Florida and everyone was from the north & all around the US.

DukeAlumnus, Is it true that one needs only about 108 credits to graduate from Duke? I took a tour last Spring and I would swear that is what our student tour guide said - a couple of times. I couldn’t believe it, but she kept saying it. Of course most universities require over 120 credits for graduation which is why I was so struck.

Although all of us probably did not get into the schools we are bashing and that’s why were doing so… I will join in.

I would never go to NYU because I desperatley need a college campus. NYU is a great school, but not for me.

I would never go to a religiously affiliated school, specifically Pepperdine. It’s such a shame too, because the campus is absolutely stunning!

“Haha you call us out for being passionate about basketball, and in the same paragraph you try to use a basketball argument against us? Who has more national championships?
I expected that you, a Wal-Mart fan of UNX, would completely miss the point of my argument, which was the only thing that Wal-Mart fans brag about and claim as the sole reason why UNX is better than Duke is the basketball team. I, thereby, countered by stating that in addition to outstanding academics, Duke has a top-notch basketball program. Duke’s men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, field hockey, women’s basketball, women’s tennis, and women’s golf are also ranked among nation’s top 10; however, do you see me bragging about Duke women’s golf team 3 straight NCs?! Nope. For some reason, you seem to need to bring up UNX’s basketball achievements, yet failed to mention that UNX went 8-20 a few years ago.

It’s not a matter of being “passionate about basketball.”

“Right…thats why UNC won the academic bracket that USA Today posted prior to the tournament. UNC is ranked #30 by USNWR, hardly the “bottom”. I would much rather pay tens of thousands of dollars less to attend a school that is not dominated by guidos and has a better atmosphere overall.”

You mean the same “academic bracket” that had Morgan State over Michigan; by your argument, are you implicitly stating that Morgan State is a better school than Michigan?! I’m sure you conviently forgot to mention that Duke won the 2009 Salary Bracket. ([PayScale - 2009 March Madness Predictions](http://www.payscale.com/2009-march-madness-predictions)).
It doesn’t matter if UNX is ranked #30 or #300; the fact remains that they aren’t ranked in the Top 25 in the US nor in the Top 100 in the world. Seems like you are jealous and bitter that you are not Duke material and got rejected, while the “guidos” are having the educational (both in and out of class) experience of a lifetime!

DUKE UNIVERSITY: Can’t be explained…ONLY EXPERIENCED!

Wal-Mart fan? Try student, buddy.

Actually, UNC is better than Dook at pretty much every sport. Our football team went to a bowl game this year, while Dook is a perennial ACC bottom-feeder. Women’s soccer won the national championship, men’s soccer went to the national championship game, baseball has been in and out of the top 3 rankings all season, and lacrosse is ranked. No one really cares about any of the sports you listed.

And you can bring up a bad season a few years ago if you want, but the fact is that UNC is the better team. Coach K even said it himself this year, after UNC destroyed Dook again.

25 is an arbitrary number, it doesn’t mean anything. And you are right, I’m not Dook material-I don’t gel my hair, speak with a Jersey accent, and rape strippers.

I would never in a million years dream of applying to Dook, because their fans are worthless, their sports teams are worthless, and their school is in one of the worst cities in North Carolina. Dook is probably the most worthless school in the state, and that is saying a lot.

I agree with globe. Pepperdine is so beautiful and I heard they are very religous and they tend to push their religion. It’s also very conservative and a lot of money for a B school.

i would never go to GWU. i still can’t figure out why it’s so expensive.

It’s a looooooong time til school starts again in the fall and we need our entertainment.

Can we please have some more Duke-U North Carolina fightin’? Along with Texas-Oklahoma, Florida-Georgia, USC-UCLA and Army-Navy, best rivalry in the USA!!

Anybody got any popcorn???

@hawkette: Haha being from OK the OU-UT one is very close to my heart (though OSU is convinced they are OU’s closest rival… meh) As an outsider observer to this whole phenomenon I find it all very entertaining…

-passes the popcorn-

Haha Duke-UNC is easily the best basketball rivalry out there, although the other schools that you mentioned have football rivalries that are unparalleled. Army-Navy is on the decline though, mainly because Army’s teams have been awful lately. It really is a shame.

But I’ll stir the pot a little bit-Dook really needs to get its act together, UNC is dominating the rivalry as of late. Not that I have a problem with that, though. :)

UNX “needs to get its act together” so maybe one day, they will be ranked among the US Top 25 and World Top 100!

Haha yeah right, keep quoting a useless ranking, thats all you can do. Dook may be ranked higher than UNC, but that is the only thing you have. In the meantime, UNC will keep pounding Dook like we have been doing. And we are ranked the #1 “best value” in the United States. I guess at Dook, you really don’t get what you pay for.

Interesting… (catfight, mrawr…)

I would never go to…
Any community college (people would just ridicule me and go ■■■ are you doing?!)
Colleges with religious affiliations or that require church attendance, etc. (Don’t feel school should dictate my religion. I would make an exception for those schools that don’t push their religion and only keep their religious affiliation for historical purposes)
Ball State University (Oh god, the name…)
Bob Jones University (Again, the name… plus the religion factor)
Other colleges with abusable names (Very subjective… Rice is okay. Colgate is not.)
University of Washington (Great CS program, but too many people from my school will go here. I just want to get out of here!)
