What college...?

hey there,

I am relatively uncertain on where to go to college, and hoped to get some suggestions by posting in this forum. Some of the colleges I have in mind are Georgetown and the University of Michigan.

-Caucasian male living in the metro Detroit Area
-Dual citizenship (Belgian and American)
-I was born in Michigan, but when I was 10 months old, I moved to Germany where I attended kindergarten and elementary school run by the Belgian army. I went to a German middle school and partly high school, and in 2007 my parents and me moved back to Michigan. Back in Michigan, I had to go to an American high school, which was difficult since I never spoke English before.
-Fluent in German, Dutch/Flemish, French and English
- I attended a full IB school (ranked the 6th best high school in North America)
-All of my classes (8) are IB classes
-Unweighted GPA is 3.55
-I took the ACT only once, and got a composite score of 26. I am practicing however, and plan to take 2 more ACT tests.
-Sports:I play Varsity football and fence with my church
-EC and leadership: I am Editor of the school newspaper, member of the German Honor Society and club officer of the German Student Association.
-Honors: I got multiple letters of recommendations of my teachers, awards for being excellent in both German and French/
-Approximately 50 hours of community service.

Thanks for the answers in advance

“What colleges?”

good ones

You fence with your church?
That is sort of hilarious.

maybe U Mich? I don’t know.

What major? Language perhaps?
What are your interests? What kind of school would you like?
Any location?

Though you obviously have an interesting circumstance, what with moving back to the U.S. in, what, 9th grade?, unless you get your ACT score up Georgetown and others of its kind may be out of the question.

International Relations (IR) is a major that would fit your profile and, in that case, Georgetown would be one of the best options.

You should also consider the possibility of going to college overseas, e.g. in the UK. Both LSE and St. Andrews offer IR as an undergraduate major; IR is not available at Oxford or Cambridge, but there are several related undergraduate majors in politics, economics, languages and history which you could pursue.

Keep in mind though that, in order to apply to a top UK program, you will probably need a minimum of 38-39 points in the IB Diploma. Just out of curiosity, which subjects did you take at HL and SL and what were your scores (out of seven) ?

Thanks. I actually am very interested in IR, and I got accepted into georgetown’s IR summer program. Other potential majors are criminal jusice and/or law, but I definately want to do something where I can use my language skills. As far as the type of college goes, I have no real preference since I am not a Michigan state resident, nor are my parents. Some sort of scholarship would dedinatly be a plus, and I am very interested into enrolling in an ROTC program. I have taken a couple ACT practise tests, and got a compsite scores of 28,29and 28 respectivly. Any suggestions, and does maybe a university like Duke or Emory seem reachable? PS: I would not mind going to a college with a lot of parties, since I am working my ass of here in my H.S.

.anyone???

…Bump…

post this in the parents forum, you’ll get good, and informed :), advice there

^^^^Who cares? Stop hijacking threads. Make up your own!

bump…

Other good reaches for IR are UChicago, Penn, and Brown. Also JHU.
