alicantekid why did you not got to Berkeley?

I was almost certain I wasn't going to go to Berkeley from the beginning...I applied there because of the obvious strength of the school but I didn't like the city at all. I didn't think I'd be happy in that environment. I wanted a bit more of a suburban-type of community, which Berkeley definitely is not.

UCD is very suburban...why did you not apply there?

Because I didn't want to go to Davis.

why not davis alicantekid ?

i picked uci over ucsb, ucd, cal poly slo

hey for you ppl that picked UCI over UCSD...why did u do so? im in the same situation right now...and i cant choose

thanks

I picked UCI over UCSB, UCD, and UCSC. I'm not going to say that all the ones I turned down aren't as good as UCI though, cuz it's hard to rank UCs so simply

Didn't apply to Davis because I'm more of a SoCal guy. I applied to Berkeley because of its stronger reputation and I might have been willing to go up north for Berkeley, but not Davis.

I'm from norcal too, but socal is just so much nicer (i.e weather and stuff). berkeley is ghetto (literally). btw why do people argue the most trivial things? (i.e OMG norcal is so much better than socal. they both have their ups and downs, who cares!) :P

I'm picking UCI over UCD and I'm from norcal too. (Sacramento to be exact which is just 13 miles down the road from UCD.) I can't wait to get out of this area. I've spent a lot of time down in socal with grandparents and other family down there and there is no comparison in my opinion. You can debate which school is better academically until the cows come home - a likely scenario if you go to Davis, but assuming the academics are equal, the better weather, beaches and hotter girls of socal made the decision easy for me.

I picked UCI over Berkeley, SD, SB, Davis, etc. Essentially, I rejected all the rest of the UCs, the exceptions being LA (I didn't get in), and Merced and Riverside (I didn't apply).

The reason I chose UCI is simple: their Honors program very much attracts me. There was no way that I could turn down priority registration, extended borrowing privileges in the library, getting to know the faculty personally, etc. Granted, the weather and lifestyle are nice, but, when it comes down to it all, I'm out for an excellent education. That's what the UCI Campuswide Honors Program will ultimately give me, I think.

matt0388-- but you'll face more competition from the SoCal surfer studs there, won't you? ;-)

You may also be disappointed in the commuter environment. ;)

uhh.....Good one.

riparian - you're probably right, but I plan on tapping into the contacts I've made from playing bball tournaments down there.

collegemom - the rents are letting me take my car with me so I won't be stuck on campus on the weekends. (Unlike other campuses, parking is not that big of a deal at UCI.) I have friends that are going to UCLA and UCSD and we're hoping to hook up from time to time. Also, my grandparents are only about 20 miles away from campus and I have uncles and aunts in Huntington Beach and Villa Park. I'm lucky in that I have a very close knit family and they've already told me to come over when I need a home cooked meal and laundry done.
