What colleges can I transfer to with a 3.5 gpa?

I’m planning on transferring to a four year college after I finish my second year at community college, and I have a 3.5 GPA and hope to go out of state(not NJ) does anyone have suggestions?

To study which subject? Have a career goal? In which field is your associates degree?

First up…what can your family afford to spend annually on your college costs?

Second…is there a transfer advisor at your community college? Go have a chat with that person who may have some decent info for you.

Third, you will need to check to see if your CC courses will transfer anywhere you decide to transfer to. You may find that some OOS schools won’t accept some of your courses for credit.

Four…what’s wrong with staying in NJ where your costs would be much more favorable.

Nobody can give you useful advice without knowing:

  1. your budget
  2. your eligibility for need-based financial aid (for example, if you arbitrarily choose one of the schools with the most generous need-based aid, such as Princeton, and run the Net Price Calculator… how much would you pay there, and could you afford that amount?)
  3. your field of study and career aspirations
  4. what region(s) you would like to study/live in
  5. other preferences (large/small school, “vibe”, etc…)

Merit money is harder to come by for transfers than for entering first-years. But if you’re looking at full-pay-minus-merit, there are a few schools with guaranteed transfer merit; for example, Miami of Ohio gives an automatic 12K/year to OOS applicants with a 3.50-3.79 GPA, which would bring the total cost per year down to a little over 40K. University of Maine offers its Flagship Match deal to transfers, which would give you a 15K discount to match the in-state cost of Rutgers.

Maybe you’re willing/able to full-pay for OOS public or private schools… or maybe you qualify for aid and need to focus on schools that will meet need… but until we know what your parameters are, there’s really no way to make useful suggestions.
