What colleges could i get into with a composite score on ACT of 28 and a GPA of 3.95

I am wondering which colleges I could get into with these scores. I am trying to find the best ones that I could apply to with these scores as to not waste my money on certain applications. Help would be greatly need. Thank you.

If that GPA is unweighted, and was earned in demanding classes, you can get in just about anywhere because EVERY SINGLE COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY ADMISSIONS OFFICER KNOWS THAT THE HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT IS THE SINGLE MOST VALID PREDICTOR FOR ALL MEASURES OF COLLEGE SUCCESS.

Lots of people have trouble with standardized tests such as the ACT and SAT. Some people do significantly better on the ACT or on the SAT, so it may be worth your while to pick up an SAT prep book at your public library and take a sample exam. Many people find that formal exam preparation helps them improve their ACT and/or SAT exam scores. Xiggi’s do-it-yourself method works for both exams. Read about it at http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/68210-xiggis-sat-prep-advice.html

If you just don’t want to take another standardized exam ever again, go to [The National Center for Fair & Open Testing | FairTest](http://www.fairtest.org) and read up on colleges and universities with exam optional and no-exam admissions policies.

Wishing you all the best.

I strongly disagree. Test scores way below a college’s median and in particular, the 25th %, will usually result in a rejection for unhooked candidates.

While you have nice scores, I think you need to start by looking at yourself and asking what type of college you would like. Large or small? Geographic region? Public or private? Fields of study? Religious affiliation or not? City, suburb, small town or rural? Whether activities you like are on campus? Big fraternity/sorority presence or not? College board .com has an online tool that can help narrrow the choices. Once you have narrowed the choices, you can start formulating a list that goes with your stats.

You “can get in just about anywhere” does not mean that you WILL get in. Can here is used in the sense of general, rather than specific, ability. The only people who know who actually will be admitted anywhere are those sitting on the admissions committees.

The OP does not necessarily have to limit his/her list to institutions where a specific ACT score is mid-range for the admitted pool. We have no idea about the courses he/she has taken or if indeed there is some giant hook. I have seen an unweighted 3.95 with an ACT of 29 and lots of interesting community service result in a massive scholarship to attend a recognizable-on-CC-LAC. No HPYSM admissions, but also no HPYSM applications were involved, just a decent, well designed list of reach-match-safety.

I agree with Blue.

Definitely need more information: what kind of course rigor, awards, ECs, hooks if any, estimated class rank, is the GPA unweighted or weighted, are you male or female, where do you live? It’s a stat range that could vary widely depending on those factors.

He gives rank as just below 10% in another thread. he’s probably looking at schools ranked below 25/30.

hmom5 – with that extra bit of information, and assuming ECs and such similarly top 10-20%:

USNWR schools ranked 40-75 would be possible matches. Even there, schools like Tulane at 50 show stats where OP would be in the bottom third of the class.

I’d like to suggest schools with stats similar to Boston University and University of Miami. OP is right about at the midpoint of those school’s stats.

I’d also suggest at least two schools in the 30-40 (like NYU) ranking that would be reaches, and two schools in the 75+ range that might be more like safeties.

Some in high matches would be Holy Cross, George Washington University, Villanova, with some match/reaches would be Bucknell, Pitzer and Occidental in CA, etc.

GWU, Skidmore, Wake Forest, Bard, Pitt, Maryland-College Park, Penn State, Villanova, NYU, Boston U, Boston C, Lewis & Clark, Sewanee, Furman, etc. I don’t know what type of environment you want, but I chose schools that would most likely accept you with the combination of scores + grades- I have seen schools comparable in admissions criteria, or the exact schools, accept people with similar stats. Any school comparable to the above (I would call them all similar in competitivity with a bit of variance) would be if not guaranteed a fairly good shot.

Lafayette, Holy Cross, Trinity.

I am trying to find the best ones that I could apply to with these scores as to not waste my money on certain applications.

Your stats are fine for many schools…

Therefore, for us to make recommendations that are right for YOU, can you answer the following??

What do you like in a school?
Big? Small? Quiet? Rah rah big sports? Big City? Rural? College town? warm weather? cold/snowy weather?

How much will your parents spend each year on your college costs?

What is your likely major/ career?
