what colleges should i apply to?

Im a junior currently and decided i was curious as to what universities i would be a good match for so...

ACT score-31

GPA-3.8 unweighted, 4.4 weighted (Not exactly positive but this is cumulative) this semester its a 4.7 i think

Current classes:
AP History 101
AP Physics
Art
AP Calc BC
Debate 3
AP Chemistry
AP Lang/Comp

Next year, because the highest maths and sciences my school offers im taking this year, i will go to the local college for half the day to take calc 3 and some physics courses.

My extracurriculars are limited due to the courseload but here they are;

Varsity debate, First team all conference and, hopefully this year, national qualifier.

State qualifier in mock trial

Student Ambassador

Im a horrible test taker and plan on improving the ACT a point or two. Anyways, my interest is law so i was thinking of U of chicago, NYU, or maybe Columbia but i think thats a stretch.

Anyone? I really need help because my parents didn’t go to college and I have no siblings

Try using the college search feature on here or on another website to put in all of your preferences. We can help you if you have a list of potential schools from a search, but it’s hard to just suggest schools without knowing your preferences.

Do you have any preference as to size, location, or anything like that?

I’d like a larger, well known school. Preferably on a coast but no big deal really. Honestly i want a school renowned for law. Thats why I thought University of Chicago, New York University, Columbia, Cornell, Stanford etc would be good. I was wondering which of those schools I have a legitimate shot at getting into or how I should improve my chances.

You really think a 31 on the ACT’s is horrible? I got a 27, and got into UVA, and got a likely from Columbia, so if you are thinking that a 31 is horrible than your on crack. Anyways…no matter what anyone says, SAT’s, ACT’s, and grades are important, but not the most important, especially for ivies. If you don’t have a killer essay, than forget about it. get a hook or go home,.

Also, from my experiences, community service is HUGGEEEE. Extra cirriculars are VERY important too. I start a program at my school that ultimately raised 6000 dollars for a water purificaiton system in North Nigeria (one of the toughest places to work in the world) and do plenty of extras on top of that, I havve swim practice twice a day…ect… Definitely try to start something new at your school, Ivies looooooove that.

And, alextylerc, you are also an African American.

thanks. no one has really told me yet what colleges are best for what i want to do though (law). Do i have legitimate shots at these colleges i listed and,if so, which one would be the best to go to? like cost effectiveness or best choice all around? im honestly completely in the dark. thank you alex btw. ill look into community service this summer for sure
