What colleges should I apply to?

"when I attend Harvard" haha that's a good one. If you already knew that, why would you be asking US your chances?

eliteprincess, you make me laugh.

But not in a good way.

You are probably some underachiever at your own local technical school, bored to death, writing these absurd posts to pass the time. Sad, really, because Harvard (or any comparable school) is long gone for you. Au revoir.

Haha tore, you're great. Congrats on Brown btw!

In my opinion I don't think it would be ethical to claim yourself a Cherokee Indian given that as you said you consider yourself Italian. It may also get you into trouble with admissions if you claim to be a Cherokee Indian and you do not know a lot enough about your heritage if they bring it up in an interview. But honestly I think with if your sats stay the same you will get in regardless of what race box you check.

Hey guys I'm back. If I claim anything about being Cherokee Indian it will be for the purpose of admission. I do believe it would be unethical to claim it for the purpose of scholarships because I don't live on a reservation and my parents have the money to send me to a decent school. I also have the GPA and will probably have the PSAT/SAT scores to get decent scholarships. If I say anything about being Native American it will be to get accepted.

Personally, I think you're Ivy League bound. If you keep up what you have now, which is a strong foundation, I'll tell you that, you're bound to end up somewhere BIG.

However, just in case something crazy happens, here are a few ALMOST as good schools that you should consider applying to:

NYU
Tufts
Northwestern
Boston College
University of Virginia
University of Michigan - Ann Arbor
UCLA

I hope you're right dude.

I think you have one of the best chances at Harvard I've seen.
1-You're from Texas, Harvard gets very few applicants from Texas.
2-You qualify as Native American. This is the most under-represented minority.
3-Your grades a perfectly solid and you're taking advanced courses. Be sure to take more APs.
4-If your practice SAT equates to your score on the real thing, you're golden.
5-Applying EA will help.
6-You have family members who have attended. You even have connections(your grandfather).
7-Recs sound good and reliable.

Now you must understand that Harvard is completly unpredictable, more so than probably any other school. A lot will depend on you writing amazing essays, I suggest you work on that early and get people's advice. You will also need to devote more time to your existing ECs and take some leadership roles/get on varsity. This seems to be your week point right now.

Pick out a couple more match schools, Tufts is in another difficult one with a similar location to Harvard and has a wonderful atmosphere. Brown might work also. Good luck to you.

Other thing is my old school didn't weight GPA's so that 3.97 is like half weighted. It's averaged between an unweighted 3.5 and a weighted 4.44

Well, then I wouldn't be that happy with it. You're competing with 4.0s.

Dude, don't focus on college yet. Just keep gettin those good grades, and in the fall/winter of your junior year, then start worrying about that stuff.

Average for Harvard is a 3.8 unweighted. I have a 3.8 unweighted. 4.0 unweighted right now.

It looked like you said 3.5. Anyways, listen to RBase07 and go enjoy life.

You also have to consider that Harvard has a very large % of people coming from elite rich-prep schools, or public magnets, so most people coming from average public schools probably have a 3.9-4.0.

Of course, Harvard loves URMs, so you stand a very good shot.

Well I'm pretty close to that. I don't even really want to go to Harvard though. I'm thinking more like Johns Hopkins or UCSD. Can somebody figure out my reach, target, and safety schools for me?

Just pick out a few colleges you like and keep them in mind while you work hard the next couple years. I'm not going to make any predictions for reaches/matches without grades from more important grades and some real SAT scores. I'm glad you don't really want to go to Harvard. What exactly are you looking for in a school? What is your intended major?

I intend to major in premedicine. I want to attend a school with smart people that I can make friends with and maybe end up partners later. I don't want to attend a school with a bunch of jocks and fraternity people.

Hopkins is a good choice. So is Cornell. Brown is good for that too.

What are my chances at Cornell or Hopkins in your opinion. My dad has a friend who is a PhD graduate from Hopkins in Cognitive Science so that may be a reccomendation. Cornell, I don't believe I have any connections there.

"I'm not going to make any predictions for reaches/matches without grades from more important years and some real SAT scores."

Those are very difficult schools but don't count one out just because you "don't have any connections". These connections rarely mean much anyways.
