What colleges should I apply to?

Alright here are my stat's so far, I'm only a sophmore so I'll give my scores on the practice SAT's. Here are my stats.

110-11 cumulative GPA (Texas scale). 3.97 GPA on the four point scale.

All PreAP classes and one AP that I'm taking next 9 weeks and it's supposed to be a junior/senior only class.

Extracurriculars: Habitat for Humanity, Spanish Club. Avid pianist and guitarist, I play tennis as well.

Community service: So far not much but I'm anticipating about 600 hours at the Christian community action center. So far about 60 hours so that will total to 660.

Also 3 relatives of mine are ivy league grads through graduate school. Two from Harvard, one from Brown.

Come on guys, reply!

What do you want to major in? It makes a large difference.

Good point. Premedicine. I basicallly meant what I could get into but that is important, what I want to major in.

Umm... In my humble opinion you are on the right way. It's just too early to tell. I would suggest running for a leadership position in your school.

Just tell me as if I kept it going like this. I think student council is just on a signing up basis

I think your options are very wide open. You are only a sophmore so you have plenty of opportunity to get that GPA above 4. Any top tier school should probably be something you are looking at. I'd say Duke, Johns Hopkins, UVa, NYU... schools like that.

Well I would do that (go for President). But if you continue to keep you grades up, and take AP classes (which it looks like you are intending to do so) then you should be fine. You will also need a pretty high SAT.

I know this may sound strange but are you male/female. What race are you. (because with Affirmative Action you could recieve a SMALL boost)

College also like athletics. Some sports let everyone join (Track and Cross Country). You may be interested in this. But with legacy you also have a SMALL boost. Ummm...If things stay the same I'd say -hesitantly- you have a good chance. There is just so much more that goes into it though. (sounding passionate and interesting in your essays & good teacher reccomendation, etc.) Hope this helps.

It's too early to tell, especially without SAT scores. Nothing in your ECs stand out too much yet, ivies love to see something unusual if you're passionate about it. Try to get more invovled. Grades look good. Certainly aim for top schools but maybe not the very top.

Relatives don't usually count as legacies either unless they're parents or sometimes siblings. Harvard does not consider the children of grad school alums legacies either. If you are a Brown legacy, I suggest you apply ED if you like the school.

In response to the affirmative action thing, I'm like 25% Italian, I don't know if that qualifies.

And the extracurriculars, I intend to keep adding stuff on, my music is a big thing though, I've been doing it a long time and I certainly am passionate about it.

Oh and I scored a 1510 on a practice SAT if that helps anyone.

Oh and about teacher reccomendations. I have several teachers at my former school that I'm sure would write me reccomendations, one that already has for other things. And I have a guitar teacher who was accepted to Harvard, Princeton, and Yale. And also the vice principal of my elementary school has watched me all the way and likes me a lot.

In response to FishS, my grandfather is a Harvard professor so that is my strongest bit of legacy.

You're 25% Italian...Affirmative Action? Haha...right.

Don't try to add on random ECs just to look good. Pick a couple things related to music and devote a good amount of time to them.

A 1510 on practice is terrific, try to do that on the real thing.

Get recs from those that know you the best. I doubt your guitar teacher being accepted to those schools will really help you, it may mean that they are a good writer tho.

What about my grandfather being a Harvard professor? And I doubted the Italian thing would help. I'm also a quarter Cherokee Indian though?

Yes, that qualifies as being part of the Cherokee nation. You're a very under represented minority. I'm not sure why you would think being part Italian is more unusual than that.

I think you have a great chance anywhere. I would apply Early Action to Harvard and maybe get a rec letter from your grandpa. Try to find some other schools you like too tho.

Sweet! I'm just more used to saying I'm Italian dude because I look more Italian.

What is sad about the college admissions process is that you will be checking a box indicating the race to which you most closely identify. Although it's clear that you most associate yourself with being white, it is enormously to your advantage to check the native american box.

Don't heed the advice of FishS. If you are so incompetent that you need racial loopholes to get into college, then I don't want to see you when I attend Harvard. Try your local technical school.
