Hampden-Sydney:
Country Club atmosphere = High Point University.
Gettysburg, Sewanee, Birmingham Southern, obviously Washington&Lee…
Furman, Sewanee, W&L. Not sure about the politics at Rollins, but it has the country club feel.
I’ve heard that Rollins has a beautiful campus, and is preppy. But, it isn’t the same kind of preppy as some of the other schools people have listed.
“What about Gettysburg, Sewanee, Trinity, and Hampden-Sydney? People have recommended all of those schools to me.”
You should be aware that at Sewanee, our tourguide announced, “I’m a feminist.” It was a big plus for me, frankly, but you may want to steer clear.
@MidwestDad3
Feminism is one of the poisons of our culture. There will most certainly NEVER be femenists at Hampden-Sydney!
^don’t be so sure. Many men respect women’s rights, after all, and women aren’t the only champions of equality regardless of gender, just like the civil rights movement in the South was spear headed by African Americans but concerned all Americans and included people of all colors.
^^The idea that feminism is “poison,” and the inference that women should not have rights that are equal to to men in every respect, is becoming such a minority view OP that you are unlikely to find “fit” in any US college. You would do better to look overseas.
@MYOS1634
I fully support women’s rights and equality(I think women should have every opportunity that men should have), that’s not what feminism is about. Feminists want women to be like men, and that’s just disgusting. (have you ever scene a Feminist!)
Hmmmm… Being a feminist means wanting women to have the same rights as men. Its a political movement with ideological and theoretical underpinnings but it has NOTHING to so with trying to make women into men. Transgender issues are relat d but are not what feminism is about, and I don’t think that’s what you’re talking about. So you think women in the army , driving, as executives giving orders to male and female employees… Try to “become men” or do you think they’re just exercising their right in a way that wouldn’t warrant comment?
I have an inkling that adult posters here have “seen” more feminists than you have…
For a feminist “scene,” watch the film “Norma Rae.” If you are unable to find anything admirable in that film, then you are truly lost.
For colleges where the gender roles are clearly demarcated, look in Saudi Arabia.
And as for whether or not I have ever seen a feminist - yes, every day. Married to one, the father of one, and enormously proud of both.
@MidwestDad3
You are wrong about the colleges. Patrick Henry College (one of my top choices, and a school that has sent several students to Harvard and Yale Law ) strongly opposes feminism.(It is an Evangelical Christian school) I actually visited the school, and spoke to some of the girls there. No one supported Feminism.
OP, you have said on other posts that you want a college atmosphere of “a private country club.” Just beware that PHC prohibits much of what would be acceptable at a private country club.
You have said you want a preppy atmosphere with “popped collars.” PHC favors home schooled students rather than prep students, and class dress is said to be business casual.
PHC does seem to support your viewpoint that feminism is dangerous to our society (as is premarital sex, homosexuality, and any number of other enumerated things). But in addition, all biology courses are taught from the standpoint that the world was created “in six twenty-four hour days” (Student Handbook). So if you can do without the popped collars, the private country club and Charles Darwin, it may very well be a good fit for you.
Hillsdale all the way. Not sure I understand the “outsiders” comment in a post above. Conservatives are the outsiders in 90% of the colleges out there. So, the comment may be telling.
Hillsdale is the antidote to most colleges that give you one side of political spectrum. Refreshing, and really well respected.
Holy Cross or GWU!
IMHO, I think you should go to Hampton Sydney or Wabash College. They’re sufficiently preppy and country clubbish and they get to wear blazers and khakis with rep ties and pocket crests, just like the Warblers in “Glee.” I’m more concerned about your self home schooling endeavors. You might look into Stanford High School, an online high school, unless it’s too expensive.
