Can I know if these would be forbidden by housing:

Rice cookers (because when I make rice in the microwave it never comes out right -- it's always too dry and it cooks unevenly in the microwave)
Boiler carafes / coffeemaker / etc.
A small blender (handheld!)
Pestle and mortar

I've never known rice cookers to pose a fire safety hazard :( -- they're always so calm and docile, and when you open them, you get such a wonderful smell!

I know I'm pushing my luck on some items here, but I just wanted to know. Thanks!

Keep the rice cooker out of sight if you bring it, although do know that it's against the rules, I'm pretty sure. Coffeemaker is fine, tons of people have them. Blender should be okay too. Pestle and mortar is fine (duh).
Just remember two things:
1. where are you going to put all of this stuff? Be mindful of your roommate and don't infringe on their space with this stuff.
2. Speaking of roommates, I would ask them before cooking anything in the room. Just because you enjoy the smells/taste, doesn't mean they will and it could annoy them or trigger allergies or whatever. Also, people in your hall/suite might be affected. Just be cautious and respectful of their tastes as well as your own. My freshman year we had someone always cooking something that smelled horrible in our hall kitchen and it made every room smell awful. It was miserable, people had trouble breathing without coughing and hacking. When we found out who it was, they were cooking some dish they had grown up with in their house and thought it was the best thing in the world.

you and me galoisien, we think alike. I'm bringing it whether it's against the rules or not. And after eating in the Newcomb dining hall yesterday, I'm going to put it as an essential on my list. disclaimer: newcomb isn't one of the better dining places. i know about ohill. :)
