I have never really been active in community service but have donated food and clothes to shelters and have donated books and movies to my local library. I also once decorated and donated a pair of children socks to give to the children’s miracle network (a non-profit organization) who then donated it to a local children’s hospital
IMO simply donating does not equate to community service. Community service is when you spend your time working for a cause – ex. volunteering at a soup kitchen, working on Habitat for humanity builds, leading fundraising efforts for a cause (rather than just dropping off books/clothing) etc. And I don’t think donating/decorating one pair of socks is significant enough to put down anywhere. There is no need to have community service.
You have asked this question in some form on multiple threads. http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/college-life/1962975-extracurricular-activities.html#latest The answer is the same as when you asked if donating money to an animal shelter is community service. I would think by now you would understand the difference between a donation and spending time doing community service work.
Community services comes in a variety of forms. Sometimes as something to add to your resume, other times as an order from a judge.
Why do you ask this question? Is it for college admissions?
Think more about being the one who volunteers at the shelter and collects the food.
In my mind, community service requires actually giving up TIME to an organization to serve a cause. Donating money is much simpler (though not necessarily easier, depending on financial situation) than actually working yourself.
