My father's a surgeon who did his residency for four years at the University Hospital of Cornell in New York. Would this count as having 'attended' Cornell U? Can I put it down on my common app? Should I? My counselors and advisors all say "yes," but I'm still not quite sure.

I don't think this counts as legacy. A legacy is generally parents or grandparents who have attended the school undergrad, because that's what you're applying for.

i think its undergrad and grad..but i dont think residency counts as grad school

no, it doesn't count as legacy - but it may be worth mentioning, especially if you're from out-of-state, because it shows a connection of some sort, which means you may actually be more likely to actually attend Cornell (and stay there) as opposed to the umpteen thousands of kids who apply to every Ivy because of the name only.

Put it down they will think you have money and accept you.
