What is considered a legacy?

At Cornell, what is considered a legacy? Does a sibling who is currently attending count, or is it just a parent who has received a bachelor's? Also, what kind of impact would a sibling attending Cornell have on my admissions?

Thanks.

theres already several threads on this, on the front page.

At Cornell, a legacy means your mother, father, siblings, grandparents, uncles, aunts, second cousins, great grandparents, neighbors, friends, coworkers, teammates, best friends, pets, and family doctor should have all graduated summa cum laude with three degrees and 5 minors each from Cornell within the last 50 years, and have donated at least $3.2 million each in small denominations over a period of 10 years.

Sorry man, you’re SOL.

thanks for being so helpful anaya

i think what they are trying to imply is… there is no strict definition and it doesn’t really matter that much. it’s not like admissions people check off a “legacy” box if your mother/father/siblings attended Cornell and nothing else could possibly be considered “legacy” status.
