What counts as "new and compelling information" for appeals, specifically for Berkeley?

The Berkeley appeals form says they strongly discourage appeals unless significant, new, and compelling information is provided. But I’m unsure as to what counts as new and compelling. I know that a mistake entering your grades etc. probably counts, but what about these:

  • EC's/ Awards you did that was not included in your original application.
  • Explanation of why you received bad grades 1 quarter due to circumstances outside of school.
  • Expanding on personal statements.
  • Anything else?

Maybe someone who had success with appeals could provide some input?

Google “UC how to appeal”

There’s a lot on the subject, like this: http://www.mercurynews.com/2014/03/24/on-college-think-hard-and-rationally-before-appealing-a-uc-schools-denial-of-admission/
