im going to be a junior in next year, and i dont know what eng class i should take. my school offers regular eng class, eng H class, eng sat(a class that offers stuff like a regular eng class + some sat stuff) ,so,what course should i take?

im probably not going to take Honor class,so either regular eng or sat eng.
eng sat class is supposed to be more challenging than the regular eng class, however,im afraid that the colleges wont like the eng sat class, because they will expect that i actually get help from school to do well on the sat.

is there any particular reason why you don’t want to try taking honors english? well, im pretty sure all universities realize that applicants study for the sat’s, so i don’t think there would be a problem with taking sat english if that’s what you really want to do.

well, if you’re not going to take Honors English, then just take Regular english. I wouldn’t recommend taking the SAT english because colleges may think that it’s not an actual english class, but rather an SAT prep class for the writing section. ..but maybe not.

From what I hear, usually the counselor explains seemingly uncommon or different courses not usually part of a normal high school curriculum.

I kind of recommend Eng H (maybe get help from the teacher/tutor, one of my friends is from China and she’s in Eng H with a 93% avg ), but then if you are sure it will significantly drop your average then I guess Regular Eng.

What do you do in Sat Eng? Is it all SAT prep (if so, Reg Eng for sure).

Let me tell you something, especially if you’re looking at the more prestigious colleges.

Colleges like it if you challenge yourself. I’ve heard that colleges like it if you get a B in H English than if you get an A in regular English. Also, by taking H English, your reading and writing skills can be more prepared for the future, IMO. However, if you’re sure that you’re going to completely bomb H English (and by that, and I mean do badly enough to mar yourself, even if you are taking an honors course), SAT Eng doesn’t sound bad… As long as it does help. Is that class like those SAT prep courses, or what?

it’s not completely a SAT eng class,it is a class that covers 50% of regular eng stuff and 50% of sat stuff. and sat eng class is more challenging than a regualr eng class in my school.sat eng class in my school is like harder than the regular eng bu easier than the honor eng.

really? your friends are pretty good!
actually,im planning to take AP eng in my senior year ,but in my junior year,i want to take some class that is more suitable for me. cuz i know that i will do better in a sat eng class(actually SAT + Regular eng ) than in a regular eng class.

If you plan to take AP english senior year, definately take english honors. Not only will it prepare you better, but your junior year is the most important year.

I second that. At my school, I know at least two students (myself included) who is going to take AP English while not having taken Honors English (I know this one other guy who must be seriously out of his mind for still enrolling in AP English). The rest? They’ve taken Honors. I’m serious. And discouraged…

I kind of regret not taking Honors English. Kind of afraid of the rigors (which, I now realize, is supposed to be good, no, better for me). However, your reading and writing will improve to the point where you are well-prepared for AP English.
