What did accept/reject/defer letter look like?

Just wondering what the letters look like. I haven't gotten an email yet, which is a completely different problem(and thread).

Acceptance:

Congratulations! The Committee on Admissions joins me in the most rewarding part of my job — informing you that you have been selected for admission to Columbia University in the City of New York. As a member of the Class of 2009, you will be a participant in an academic community wealthy in intellectual and personal talents of every kind. We are fully confident that the gifts you bring to our campus will be unique and valuable and that your abilities will be challenged and developed here.

You and your family have every reason to be proud of the great achievements that we acknowledge today with this good news. We hope you will share your joy and excitement with the faculty at your school who have helped you reach this happy day.

The Columbia faculty, students and administration look forward to welcoming you into a community that thrives on our combination of a demanding curriculum, a diverse and talented student body, and a college town abundant in dynamism and opportunities. We know that you will contribute to the academic and personal excellence that has been the hallmark of Columbia students since 1754. The coming years at Columbia promise to be lively and joyful ones indeed as we continue to celebrate over 250 years of achievement and distinction.

It is our great pleasure to congratulate you on the successes that have earned you this fine honor, and we eagerly anticipate the successes that you will no doubt enjoy at Columbia. If any member of the admissions staff can assist you in the days ahead, please do not hesitate to write or call.

Rejection:

The Committee on Admissions has carefully reviewed your application to
Columbia University under the Early Decision Program. I am sorry to inform
you that we will not be able to offer you admission. I realize that this is
disappointing news for you and your family, particularly in light of your
strong interest in Columbia.

Over the past six years, the first-year applicant pool to Columbia has
nearly doubled in size, making admissions intensely competitive for
candidates seeking places here. The Committee on Admissions carefully
evaluates each candidate's credentials in the context of the applicant
pool; because our decisions are the product of many hours of thorough
assessment and review, we must emphasize that they are final and not
subject to appeal.

I want you to know that our decision in no way reflects a lack of
confidence in your ability to achieve success at a competitive college and
throughout life. Our experience is that the vast majority of students who
do not gain admission here go on to distinguish themselves at many fine
colleges and universities all over the world.

We appreciate the interest you have demonstrated in Columbia and wish you
the best in your college career and future endeavors.

Sincerely,
Jessica Marinaccio
Director
Undergraduate Admissions

P.S. Please note that a hardcopy of the above was mailed out this
afternoon.

Defer:
The Committee on Admissions has carefully considered your application as an Early Decision candidate to Columbia and has decided to defer a final action on your application. When the Committee convenes in the coming months, your case will be reconsidered in the context of the full application pool. However, since the final decision will not reach you until April, I urge you to submit other applications in order to keep your college options open.

I understand that this action may be a disappointment to you and your family, but the Committee on Admissions has deferred only those candidates whose credentials may prove competitive in the context of the regular decision pool. In past years, deferred Early Decision candidates have been admitted at a rate comparable to Columbia’s overall acceptance rate.

The Committee encourages you in the interim to let us know of any significant new achievements since your Early Decision application was submitted; please report these by mail, not by telephone. We will also rely on receiving your mid-year grades from your school. We appreciate the interest you have expressed in Columbia by your Early Decision application and assure you that your enthusiasm will be remembered when your application is reviewed again.

Sincerely,
Jessica Marinaccio
Director

P.S. Please note that a hardcopy of the above was mailed out this
afternoon.
