what did interviewers say about you?

Did everyone ask their interviewers "How do you think I did?" at the end of the interview? What did they say?

I don't think I'd ask that in an interview...

When my guidance counselor asked me that (since it's her first year at my school) in an awkward position.

As an interviewer, I would recommend not asking that question. It's hard to imagine an interviewer giving a candid analysis in any event.

oh no...i asked for the first two interviews. the yale interviewer(2nd one) volunteered the fact that he had a good impression of me.

I read in "Get into Any College" that you could ask that question. So it's better not to ask the question?

admissionaddict, how old are you? just curious. and if the interview lasted around 1.5 hour, the interviewer was laughing and all, and i felt that i had done well, is that a good sign?? how can the interviewee tell whether he/she did well or not?

theone, ur GC asked you what?

I didnt ask her that question. She just told me that out of everyone she has ever interviewed, I was the only one that was perfect for Yale. I could barely keep my composure after that. After the interview I just could not stop smiling. I now wishthe interview counted for more becausemy stats just are not up to par.

I didn't ask, but my interviewer told my mother, "You have a very charming daughter." I have no idea what that really means. It might have been a go-to-Wellesley diss.

My interview lasted three hours, topping my UChicago one by an hour...I'm assuming he liked me or he wouldn't have stayed that long.

hideANDseek--An interviewee can never know for certain whether they had a good interview. I always try to make applicants feel good about themselves as almost every kid I've interviewed is smart and accomplished and should be proud of himself or herself regardless of whether Yale offers admission. If you felt you had a good interview, you probably did. My interviews can be pretty short, about 45 minutes, just because I'm on a tight schedule, so the length does not reflect my appraisal of the candidate. But if your interview lasted 1.5 hours, it sounds like your interviewer enjoyed talking with you. Don't stress to much about asking how your interview went. What's done is done and it isn't a big deal.

As to my age, let's just say I'm neither a recent grad nor an old fogey.

Hey AdmissionsAddict,

aside from any questions about interviews, how was your Yale experience? What was your major?

readingissexy:

three hours? what did you talk about for that long?

mr_sanguine--My Yale experience was AMAZING in terms of academics, extracurriculars, friendships, personal growth, social life, etc. Words simply cannot describe how much I love the place and how it much it continues to mean to me long after graduation. I'm not a religious person, but if such a thing as heaven exists, it would pale in comparison to my four years at Yale.

I was a history major.

SonataX-- It was kind of a blur...I really don't know how it ended up lasting that long, but he got there at three and we just kept chatting until it was about 6 and dark outside and the whole time we had been sitting at the kitchen table. The annoying thing about some of my alumni interviews is that they have caused me to want to go to the school very, very badly, and I have been trying to remain neutral as to stay off imminent disappointment.

i didn't ask that but he said "there are a lot of people like you at yale." "I'm really interested in you." Stuff like that.

It's generally considered a bad idea to ask...it can make you come across as impatient and immature

grrr I'm jealous of all of you who had interviewers who allowed the interview to last into multiple hours. Mine was at a law firm and the guy interviewing me was on a tight schedule and told me he had only a half an hour. We ended up talking for about 45 minutes which I guess is a good thing, but I still didn't get to talk as much as I would have liked.

he did say at the end that he hoped I ended up in Saybrook, his residential college.

Haha sorry for the ambiguous language. I meant my GC asked me how she was doing in the middle of a private college prep meeting and I was like uhhh you're doing great! It was kinda weird, that's all.

My interviewer had to keep on telling me to lower my voice... hahaha... apparently the other people in Starbucks were giving us looks. I'm used to that request though, my friends say the same at least once a day!

My interviewer said: "Your passion was inspiring."
