What did you do during your summer from 9th to 10th grade?

I am planning to take algebra2/trig, study for sats, play some tennis, prepare for 10th grade, and some other stuff. How about you? :]

Nothing. As close as you can come to literally nothing. I was very sad. T_T. I was scheduled to take the Latin SAT Subject test though.

Suggestions: self-study something interesting! I’m not in your guys’ grade, obviously, but one of the things I’m doing is something you could easily do - self-study for a ham radio license.

I took a bunch of art classes with my friends, canoed and kayaked like crazy, hung out with friends, jogged a lot… Nothing unusual. It was a slow summer.

I attended a math program at NYU’s Courant Institute of Mathematics, worked through SYEP at a medical center helping out the physical therapist, and volunteered at the library. It was a fun summer=)
Oh, I haven’t been accepted to MIT year; I’m applying to MIT the coming school year.

My son volunteered. It was a great experience for him personally and has served him well as the basis for further accomplishments. Already having significant volunteer experience helped him get picked for some great opportunities his sophomore year. The snowball effect is continuing as he finishes his junior year.

Haha…I’m a freshman right now, and I hardly have any plans for the summer : p. All I know for sure is that I’m going to keep working on my Chinese/Russian/Spanish and try to find tutoring opportunities. Oh and of course, hang out with friends and play tennis : )). I also intend to push myself not to be lazy and really work towards my youth orchestra audition, though I don’t know how that will go (hopefully well!).
I definitely need to plan more in advance next year.

I think I played video games all summer. :]

I participated in a fellowship with a water conservation organization. Involvement with that particular activity was not referenced on my college applications, however.

summer of 9th i did EPGY at Stanford. summer of 10th i played a loooot of tennis

Absolutely nothing =) And it felt great. Enjoy your summers while you can!

I did Algebra II for a little over a month and that was about it. Read and watched a ton of tv. Between 10th and 11th I think I volunteered at the library for a total of 10 hours, then a whole lot of nothing. Then between 11th and 12th I realized that there were people who seriously utilized their summers for intense things like internships, research, and summer programs (honestly, I never knew that before coming to CC). So I joined up and did a free summer program at Carnegie Mellon taking college classes, did a two week local engineering camp, and did a NASA program that allowed me to visit the Houston Space Center.

…Might have gone overboard there in the descriptions. Just trying to make the point that you can do a lot of nothing in your summers as well and still go to college. Although I kinda wish I had done things, cause books and television can get pretty boring. So, yeah. Just have fun during summer. If that means a class and tennis and studying, then go for it.

Well, my summer holidays were only 6 weeks long (I’m not American), but I participated in a science program for high achievers and went to my statewide youth orchestra summer school, where I was concertmaster of the top orchestra. I think I also did a lacrosse program, although that might’ve been between years 8 and 9…

… I don’t go to MIT though. I’m still in high school :)
