My cumulative GPA is not so great. The problem is, I wasn’t very good at high school in 9th and 10th grade. The last two years, however, I’ve been improving greatly, not failing, getting mostly A’s and B’s. I’m afraid that some colleges will overlook me because of my low overall GPA. What should I do?
Unfortunately, there is not much you can do about your GPA. All you can do is continue to get good grades. Good extra-curriculars, test scores, essays, etc. can help. It will not make admission officers ignore your GPA, but it can help your case a little bit.
You DO not have to attend a top notch elite UG school to get admitted to med school. At least 70% of med school admits are not from elite schools. If you get nothing but As from a local state school, with a descent MCAT, you can get in med schools.
Yes, some colleges won’t accept you. But many many fine institutions will…and if you get a good GPA, MCATs, volunteering and shadowing you will have a very good shot at med school.
