Okay, so I go to beauty school for Cosmetology and I always thought that this was the field I wanted to be in but now that I'm doing it it's nothing like I expected it to be. My school has absolutely no structure, they have no flexibility with the schedule, the school doesn't have the right accommodations for its students, and the list goes on and on. I'm also about to be 5 months pregnant and this is making beauty school much harder than it should be I feel like. There's like 40 something other students at my school ( yes its that small!) and I'm the only pregnant one besides one of my instructors and all the other girls are picking up on what were learning a lot easier and faster than I am. I'm just not happy at all with how things are going. I want to go to a real college. I'm not sure if I should withdraw and go back to a new college for its cosmetology program in hopes that it may be more structured, or if I should go to a new school for an actual degree in something. Only thing is I have federal pell grants and a student loan to pay for the school I'm in. If i withdraw and go back to school once my baby is here, will I lose every bit of my financial assistance or will it just automatically go to me having to pay my loan back and my pell grant move to next school yr. How does that work?

Lauren,
As far as dropping out, trying another school for Cos or going for an undergraduate degree, that’s going to take some major soul searching and financial planning on your part. I don’t know your situation, but having a baby is going to change your circumstances radically, for time, energy and money, so it maybe too early to make a plan beyond whether you want to stay in your current school or not.

I’m not a FA expert, but there are several very experienced members on the FA & Scholarship forum, so I recommend you post the financial part of your question about loans, grants, etc. there.

Best of luck!

Thanks for your post. I actually already planned on after getting my license going for my psychology degree. I’m thnking that that is what I would do now if I withdraw. And as far as the financial aid questions, I will definitely post it on that forum. Thank you
