What do I need to do in high shool to get into UCSB?

UCSB is my dream shool. I am a freshman in high shool (yes, I know I'm young), but I want to start preparing now. Currently I am in Interact (rotary) club, and Student council as extra curriculars. I'm taking Pre-AP Lit and Honors math. What do I need to do in order to get in? Or any advice for something I should do to get in? I live in Texas and I would be an OOS undergrad. Thank you! :)

UW GPA 3.6+, Rank at least 10%, have three clubs/extra curricular activities that you do throughout 4 years at school and get leadership positions in them. SAT 2000+, ACT 30+.

I think those statistics will put you at least at the 25% of matriculated. The main thing to keep in mind is take the hardest classes without compromising GPA/rank and do well on SAT/ACT. Then do like 3 clubs but stick with them throughout all 4 years of high school. And read, a lot, and anything: books, poems, newspapers, non-fiction, textbooks, etc.

Okay thank you! The advice about taking the hardest classes without compromising my GPA really helped. :)

It also helps to play sports and do a lot of community service

My advice is to talk your parents into moving to CA, at least for your senior year. The OOS cost of UC schools is just nuts, and unless your parents are willing and able to pay for it (probably $50K these days and likely to be north of $60K by the time you enroll) it is just not worth it IMHO.

As far as specific factors UCSB looks at, you can read them here at [UCSB Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucsb.edu/SelectionProcess.asp?section=selectionprocess&subsection=reviewprocess&selectiontype=prospective_freshman)

Well, I will give you the average.

Average weighted GPA: ~4.1
Average unweighted GPA ~3.6
Average SAT: 1800-1900
