What! Do I need to start studying vocab or something?

Hey,
I've been practicing my SATs for next Saturday using the practice tests out of the BB, and I completely screwed up my CR where we have to fill in words for blanks in a sentence. I missed 4/6 of the first questions and the BB answers say that they are easy... GG.
I can do the comprehensive reading part easily and get them all right, but the fill in the blank vocabulary part is just a killer on me. Sometimes I'd narrow the answers between two, and when I checked the answer, it wasn't either of my choices. Should I start teaching myself more vocabulary words or is there a trick or something for it. I hope this doesn't lead to my downfall!

I would open up a prep book to the sentence comp. chapter and read it if i were you

There's no "trick" to it. Just get a vocab list (one of the SHORT lists, <500 words, like a Hit Parade) and start studying. You need to learn some of the easier vocab words first since you are missing many of the first questions in CR.

That website helped me a ton with the SAT vocab.

If you want to be a traditionalist, go get your dictionary and start copying out words & defs that you don't know. Start with the As. Get all the ones you don't know (hopefully a short list). First write the word + def. Then just the word. Do this 5-10x. Then move onto the Bs. I did this for YEARS when I was younger (my parents punishment. I never got grounded...I copied out of the dictionary) and it has helped me immensely. In addition to expanding your vocab, you'll learn how to spell. :)

...but the website is much more fun

Haha, I love that website, I'm going to go for a whole ricebag.

Where can I find a list of vocabulary words? Since I'm taking the SAT this saturday, it probably won't help me, but I'll study it for future reference. I'll try to figure out a technique for this weekend, though.

Oh yeah, in that game, this probably won't help me in the future, but moray means: eel? I knew it was a type of eel, but I didn't know it meant eel, I thought it meant something to describe it or something.

sparknotes website has a great vocab list

Oh yeah, I have one more question. Are the SAT's scaled? or do you have to get every question correct to get a 2400?

yes they're scaled. You can omit a few (maybe 1) and get all the rest right for a perfect score, or depending on the curve, miss one.

Yeah, you really need to start studying vocab. I notice that I recognize words in my daily life that I didn't recognize before on the news, radio, lectures, etc. These words are important, and no amount of strategies can help you if you don't know the words. If you don't have any books, just look at Sparknotes 1000. In my opinion, it's one of the most comprehensive word lists out there. It's concise(compared to excessive lists like barron's 3500) and has the important words that you'll need to know.
