Hi, I'm about to start college at Kean University (a large, but not well-known public school in NJ), but my dream is to eventually transfer to Rutgers University (a much better school in NJ).

What will I need to accomplish this? How high do you think my college GPA, after two semesters, will have to be to get accepted into Rutgers? 3.0? 3.5?

I also have to point out that I was not a very good student in high school. My HS GPA was around 2.4, but I did manage to finish in the top 50% of my class (I went to a very bad public school). I didn't do very well in my first two years of high school, but my GPA for the last two years were around 3.0.

My SAT scores were 500, 540, and 460, in CR, M, and W. But I'm certain I can pick those scores up when I take it again in a year.

Although I didn't do so good in HS, I have a good feeling I'll excel in Kean.

You should take this question to the Transfer Forum. Click on “Discussion Home” in the upper-left of this screen and then scroll down to find it.

The Rutgers website should have information about requirements for transfer applicants. Read through them to see what you need to do.

No, the College Admissions forum is primarily for fr admissions questions, that’s why the Transfer Students forum was made. Transfer admissions varies greatly from fr admissions in many ways and unless you’ve either gone or are interested in going through the process, members are not likely to know much about it.

You are excessively bumping, you just started this thread yesterday.

Some threads get immediate attention, others take a while, and others never get much response, that’s just the way it is. Take a look at the other threads, I see many with zero to low post counts.

Sometimes people don’t respond to threads because they don’t know too much about the question(s) asked. There may not be that many people familiar with Rutgers.

Sometimes people don’t respond to threads because it is a question that has been asked constantly and which can be answered by reading sticky threads, looking at recent threads and using the Search function. Probably the most asked question on this forum is from a student who hasn’t even started their fr year but is looking to transfer ASAP to a more selective dream college, despite the fact that their HS record and test scores are below the norm for that school. The sticky thread at the top of this forum discusses what colleges are looking for in transfer students:

It’s Sat/Sun in the summer, there isn’t as much traffic as during the school year.

Do you really think complaining and accusing people of conspiring against you is going to improve your chances of getting meaningful input?

Do your homework, read that sticky thread and other threads that ask the same question as you have, there are plenty of them if you take the time to look.

No, there are not a plenty of them. How do I know? I have searched “Kean” and “Rutgers”, and there is not one thread about a Kean student wanting to go to Rutgers, that has been answered.

I think your question is a bit specific. Nobody really knows enough about Kean or Rutgers that much to be able to give u an adequate response. Sorry.

OK, I’ll try to spell this out for you one more time, even though I am just a liar and have nothing better to do with my time than harass anonymous people on the internet . Like demoz says, no one is going to respond to your Kean => Rutgers question, most, including myself have never heard of Kean. The general recommendations given in the sticky thread and discussed in many of the “transferring up” threads apply to ANY move from a lower to a more selective college.
