Hello. You know how colleges come to talk to students who are interested in their schools? What should I say during this to increase my chances? There might be other people in the meeting
There likely will be other people at the meeting. Usually they are presentations by the admission officer, but it would make sense to prepare a few questions about the school that can’t be answered from the website and to know a few reasons why this particular school is of interest to you. But don’t be disappointed if you don’t have a chance to ask a question or make a comment. And if there is any attendance sheet be sure to sign it.
Just the fact that you are means that you are "showing interest"in the college.
I would ask: “What is a typical XYZ college student like”?
or “What differentiates XYZ college from its peers?”
This is not an interview. Ask questions that you genuinely want to know the answer to and don’t worry about it affecting admissions. Unless you are obnoxious, it will make little difference.
Some brainstorms about what to ask:
- Are you totally clear on what you need to do to apply, or is the section on subject tests wispy-washy? Or maybe an essay prompt seems unclear to? Or you want to retake a test and need to know the deadline?
- Are you totally clear on academic offerings, or do you need to ask about getting into a major, double-majoring, internships, AP policies, etc?
- Are you totally clear on fun stuff, or do you need to know more about greek life, an activity, club, or athletics?
- If living on campus, any questions about dorms or food that aren’t in the brochures?
