WHAT DO I WRITE MY ESSAY ABOUT?

So I’ve done everything I need to for my application, but I don’t know if what I wrote about in my personal statement is alright. I wrote about how as I kid I never felt in place with family and with school because of a language barrier. It ends with me being able to speak a little bit of one of two languages. I’m applying to Columbia, NYU, UofT, UBoston, and Harvard. Although the writing seems seamless, I don’t think it’s something that would get me into an Ivy. What effect should my essay have? What are officers looking for? Motivation, dedication, inspiration or just a personal touch?

HELP

Uhhh… It really depends on the school. Most want to see that you can think and reflect deeply on issues in the world around you and your own life experiences. That’s pretty much it; if you can write a solid essay that’s not cliched and sufficiently conveys whatever you feel is most important for them to know about you, then that’s a successful essay.

Thanks. I do feel that my essay doesn’t show the “true me”. Any super important tips I need to know?
