Hi...I'm from a very warm climate and as I've been wearing a uniform to school since sixth grade I don't have as many "school" clothes that a normal person would. I am just wondering what kind of clothes the girls at Dartmouth wear/ what should I expect to bring. Like is it chilly in the fall or still pretty warm and what types of clothing?
Thanks any answers are appreciated :)

I have sort of the same question. What type of boots and coat should a guy buy for winter? Any specific recommendations?

Girls: Rainboots!! Hunter is the popular brand, but just as long as you have a pair. They will be your best friend. Mine have seen so much wear they’ve split up the back. Uggs and ugg style boots are big for winter, and Sorrel boots as well. Hanover tends to kill shoes though, with all the mud, and salt, and rain and snow, so keep that in mind. A North face fleece…yes, everyone has them, yes every weekend there are a zillion blitzes about lost ones, but its because they’re just so perfectly suited for Dartmouth. A warm winter coat, again a lot of Northface, cute hat, gloves and scarf. Girls also wear a lot of ballet flats and boat shoes and flat bottom brown or black leather boots…heels aren’t practical. Fall is a mix of warm and chilly…days in 40’s, days in the 70’s, and it can get pretty cold at night. Leggings are, like it or hate it, basically the uniform half the time, especially as upperclass-women get lazy and stop wearing pants. But other than that, people have individual styles, that they just sometimes have to adapt to the weather more than might be necessary at other schools. Narrow legged jeans and pants that can be tucked into boots are good…snow, mud, and rain are not kind to your pants. Basically, i recommend layers…versatile jackets and sweaters that can go with a lot of warmer weather clothes for chillier days. A recommend having frat specific clothes…cheap but cute clothes beer can get spilt on, shoes you won’t mind throwing out at the end of the year, and a coat that you won’t mind getting dirty, lost, or otherwise damaged. Frat uggs, or fake uggs because they will get gross, are a good idea for winter.

Sorry, no tips for guys.

On the outerwear, I suggest that you come with a few sweatshirts/hoodies and plan to buy what you need after you see what the options are. There are plenty of places to buy winter clothing in the vicinity, or you can order from the internet.

Some guys never wear boots at all. Most of them probably wear standard sneakers/trainers most of the time.

Layering over long-sleeved shirts–t-shirts or casual cotton button-downs or the like-- is probably going to be the way to go for most of the school year. I think that most kids probably wear jeans most of the time.

It starts getting cool at night in September. The weather in Northern New England at that time of year can range form the 80s to the 30s in a single day. :)
