Of course, the rep is that there isn't much of a drinking/partying scene, which is something I really like about UChicago. So, if you guys aren't into that scene, what do most people do for fun at the school? Are student organizations popular? Do people spend a lot of time away from campus and in Chicago instead?

Okay, I will. Thanks! :)

tee hee hee, thanks, idad!

But to answer the question again (as it’s a big one, and I’m sure many are not going to take initiative to look for the answer), Chicago kids do some, all, or none of the below:

–Attend on-campus events-- Doc Films, improv comedy shows, cultural shows, concerts
–Participate in one or many extracurricular activities that may or may not eat up their lives in a wonderful way (cough University Theater cough)
–Watch movies
– Play dorky computer/video games with each other (seriously, all of my friends are really into D and D, but they’re all REALLY quiet about it…)
–Go to frat parties
– Go do something in the city of Chicago
– Go to get-togethers at somebody’s apartment, I’ve been to parties that have run the gamut from five people sitting together, drinking wine, and talking about Shakespeare to parties where many a future in politics was tarnished due to the facebook photo trail.

What I can’t emphasize enough is that when there are 5,000 kids, everybody is going to be doing different kinds of things all the time. There’s no one dominant activity that everybody does, and the kid who goes to a frat party one night might hang out in PJ’s and watch a movie with a few friends the next.

Every time unalove posts, she makes UChicago my first choice for another fleeting moment. And then I think about the weather. And the fact that decisions are still fourish months away.

Am I the only one who is in love with Chicago BECAUSE of the weather? Ofcourse there are many other reasons, but I LOVE the cold, snow and rain. >_< In fact, my family is moving to Florida after I go to college, which is where they want me to go to school (With my cousin at UTampa) but I refuse x.x

I’m basically the stereotypical pale blonde girl who hides underneathe a towel when I’m forced to lay out by the pool XD I looooathe the sun (The burning sun, rather, not the beautiful spring day sun, I quite enjoy that at times)

As for fun, Chicago has none silly! Fun died a horribly tragic death at UChicago many many years ago.

Jk, ofcourse. I like the fact that there isn’t a huge greek life at Chicago. I’m not into it that much, but it stills exists if you are. It’s just not overwhelming, which I like.

As for fun…we’d do what normal (LOL us…normal…Cough) people do! Watch movies, play scrabble, sing karoake, and whatever else tickles your fancy. I don’t think that was exactly the saying I was looking for…oh well.

You get the idea! Just having a good time doing what kids do best…being kids.

^^ Weather is one thing. That the sky becomes a grey fuzzy blanket for a good part of the year is another thing. Every once in a while, there are some winterwonderlandy days, but overall, if you like the cold, there are better choices than Chicago!

I’m sorry to inform you, but Video killed the radio star as well as the fun at UoC back in 1979.

Grey fuzzy blanket sounds good to me. And yes, I know. That’s why University of Rochester is my second choice :p

S1 reports movie marathons of various genres, contradancing, Iron Chef competitions, involvement in community outreach (i.s., Splash), etc.

S2 reported that the day of his on-campus interview, the football stadium was filled, there were tailgaters with beer and grills, and that Chicago beat CMU. Foam weapon fights and philosophical/political debates were on the agenda on a prior visit.

Both were delighted with what they found.

I prefer gathering around with few of my closest friends, drinking a bit and then ripping on the majority of the student body.

^sounds good

You know, it really is quite enjoyable.

But you also have to be kind of lame like myself in order to get full satisfaction.

I heard somebody painted a fence so most of the students gathered around and watched it dry but that only lasted an afternoon. Afterwards the students went back to studying.

My fun never dies: http://scavhunt.uchicago.edu/

Good God, I would die a happy man this very second if all the people that participated in scav hunt were slaughtered without mercy.

S1 had a great time at the 63rd Annual Latke Hamantash Debate last night. This is real U of C fun.

LATKES!!!
Hamentash are gross. On a side note: are there lots of Jews at UChicago?

About 15% of the student body from what I understand. They have a very active AEPi chapter as well.

They’re called Hamantashen (Hamantash is long for Haman I think. The food named after it, though, is called Hamantashen). And honestly, it depends what filling is in the Hamantashen. If it’s poppyseed, then it’s Hamantashen, no questions about it!
