I figure the outdoor scene is fairly large but aside from that does anyone party? I hear that parties are almost nonexistent here and that some kids go up to Boulder to party- is there any truth to that? Also, how bad is the gender ratio?
Mines students can easily get to Union Station in the Lodo area of Denver. Its a very good place to go out. Denver is on the light rail, and closer than Boulder and offers sports (Rockies, Broncos, Ave’s and Nuggets, as well as professional soccer, the Colorado Rapids). Denver offers a zoo, an aquarium, a good art museum and a nice Science and Nature museum with lots of special exhibits. You can get to fantastic ski resorts from Mines, and you should learn, if you don’t know how. Skiing is very close to Golden, in Arapaho Basin, and Loveland Ski Resort , very close by. Boulder, has a great party scene. Its a drive up north, on highway 93, and easy to drive up. Boulder is a pricy city with a lot of high end restaurants and shopping and good classical music. Boulder Theatre has very good shows, and yes, the night life is great in Boulder. There are numerous smaller theaters, bookstores, the Pearl Street Mall. There are good “student dives” in Boulder, on the Hill. (Asian, Middle Eastern, and many other good places for reasonable prices ) Golden is small, western town, with a few restaurants. Mines does have fraternities. I would expect there are parties, and there are about 30% girls at Mines. CU Boulder Engineering also has few girls.
