I know this may seem like a silly question, but I’m an incoming freshman from a very different climate than the Midwest. What should I buy in terms of winter gear, and what are some thing/ typical brands that people wear throughout the year, just to get a few ideas. Please be as specific as possible. Thanks!
Definitely get snow boots! I recommend looking at 6pm for some good discounts, and brands vary. A common theme is WashU student’s spend way too much money just for brand name (Hunter boots, Canada Goose Jackets, etc). I personally have Propet snowboots that I love and I switch between a pea coat from H&M, a heavy faux fur lined jacket from A&F (got it on sale), or a long puffy jacket that I bought from Macy’s. St. Louis can get pretty windy so find a wind breaker (best if it has a removable warm layer). Most Macy’s brands are good as well as outdoor companies like L.L. Bean, Columbia, or The Northface
I live in STL and I’m super sorry to tell you this, but the weather is super bipolar. So pack everything ranging from shorts to huge winter coats. In the winter it can get super cold and it snows pretty often so prepare boots, warm pants, etc. In the summer it’s pretty hot so I would definitely prepare for that as well. Sometimes it can be over 100 F.
What type of shoes do people wear (besides snow shoes)?
Also what would you recommend for people who are very middle-class and cannot afford all these really nice name-brand items of clothing?
People tell me about all the winter clothes to wear, but what do people wear in the heat? And which months is it really warm enough to wear shorts/summerclothes during the school year? I’m from the south, and I was thinking it wld be cold the whole time I’m in stl yikes
^Female clothing item suggestions pls, I’m a chick
@nineteeth123 Believe me, nobody at Wash U is going to treat you differently based on your clothing.
But if you’re wondering what the students wear, you can just google image search “wustl students.” The photos with people wearing shorts are from roughly August to October and April to May, the photos with people wearing jeans are from November to March. Also check out the St. Louis Wikipedia page at >> St. Louis - Wikipedia << and expand the “Climate data” tab to view average highs and lows.
I can’t speak for the ladies, but I weathered 3 pretty bad winters (and 1 not so bad one) from 2010-2014 with jeans, an Eddie Bauer fleece, and a beanie. I also wore a pair of steel toe boots when it rained/snowed. Can’t say I was never cold, but I survived without too much pain.
