can somebody explain to me what a business major does? I'm mostly left out of the picture of business because I never thought I would want to become a businessman. (concentrated mostly on med and engineering)I think I have an idea, but can't believe that what people with a business degree actually do. (goes around selling promotions, etc) Thanks for your patience. :o

Business is really quite broad. There generally isn't a "business" major per se. The main pure business majors are: accounting, finance, management, and marketing. There are other disciplines like management information systems, supply chain management, and operations management.

Each major involves fairly different jobs and classes. However, almost all business majors usually take a core set of classes in accounting, statistics, and business organization. Some majors are kind of self explanatory like accounting. Finance majors can go into corporate finance (working in the finance department of a corporation), investment banking, commerical banking, financial management, etc.

I think in general, a large number of business majors are hired by the various companies that need people to fill in jobs related to the different business disciplines. This is considered going the corporate path.

Other business majors are hired by firms that specialize in certain fields like public accounting, investment banking, consulting, and financial management.
