What do you do in a typical over night visit?

DD filled out an online questionnaire, coached responded back, saying can arrange an unofficial visit day trip or over night.

I was just wondering what do you typically do in over night trip, how much more you learn about the school, the class, the student body, the team etc.?

Can some one give me a description?

ITA!!

Every school was slightly different, but most of first-round OV’s followed the following format:

 • Welcomed by the coach but then turned over to admissions
 • tour of campus
 • meet with admissions to talk about academic requirements and perhaps financial issues
 • meet back up with Coach - tour of athletic facilities
 • if it was during the school year, meet the players, watch a practice or game if in season - during the summer, there was no player interaction
 • wrap up with meeting with coach - one on one with lots of questions and opportunity to ask questions (have some prepared)

With the school she was most interested in (and eventually committed to) she went on a second UOV where she went to 2 different classes within her major, one with a freshman and one with a junior, she met with a professor in her major, she was with the team for the pregame meal and meeting, then watched the game, then came back the next day to review film with the team.

Overall, all of our UOV were extremely informative and enjoyable - we always had an itinerary ahead of time from the coaches, and often she was welcomed with a personalized parking spot (that was a pretty cool touch). Your student athlete should be prepared with lots of questions, both academic and athletic. Prep your student to not be afraid to ask direct questions - such as “where do I fall on your prospects for my year/my position?” Our experience was that the coaches expected the questions and answered very directly.

It’s exciting, enjoy!

Thanks, Squidge. it’s very informative!

Just got back from an athletic overnight. I have to say it was an amazing experience.
This is basically what I did–
Arrived at 3PM and checked in. Explored the athletic training rooms and fitness center alone for a little while.
Took a campus tour (my 3rd, haha) from 4-5
5 PM met my host (She had just got back from a tournament)
Went to her dorm and dropped off my stuff
Went back to the athletic complex and met with the rest of the team.
Went to dinner and ate dinner with the coach and the team.
Hung out with my host (who was SO nice), and did some homework. We did typical college school night “stuff”-- Go to the library, get some coffee, study and then we had a snack before bed

The next morning, we went to a dining hall for breakfast
Went to classes (I could have gone to any class, but I decided to follow my host to her classes)
I then went to lunch while my host was in Physics and ate with the coach.
I then left and went on my epic journey to get home via amtrak trains :)

My swimming son has actually been told to bring his suit to his upcoming one. That one also involves watching a meet, going to classes, taking several meals with the team, and meeting with an advisor.

At his last one, he was taken around to several parties by team members who, ahem, were apparently under instructions to show him a very good time. Although I think they quite liked him too.
