What do you guys think about the Schiavo Case?

While I respect your opinion, I still reserve the right to disagree with you. The bottom line is, the third party (Kennedys--see my previous post) is using this as a quick way to have a social revolution. For that matter, they are trying to have a political revolution, as well. They've only managed to get 2 men into the White House--Carter & Clinton--in the past 37 years.

Finally, sempitern:
I laughed when I read that about Eva Braun... Ann is no different than Eleanor, aside from the fact that Eleanor was First Lady. Eleanor tried to run things, just in a more furtive manner. Okay, maybe Mrs. R isn't so much like Ann, but still, one has to laugh when he or she reads Ann's columns. I personally roared when I learned a few years ago that she attended UMICHIGAN Law School! How funny!
See guys...be lighthearted about politics, not ulcerous.

-H2O-

unfortunately ann's writings ARE highly ulcerous

I mean I can laugh at her columns because they're idiotic, but other than that they are quite scary. To use the example of another conservative as quoted by one of my favorite Internet pundits, Mr. Cranky, " 'Dr.' [James] Dobson once represented the kind of wild-eyed evangelical nutball whose prophetic utterings were relegated to "News of the Weird" columns. Now, he's pretty much the face of mainstream Republicanism." Pretty close to what Ann is, unfortunately.

And what is this "third party" that you're talking about? And umm, if you go back another 8 years, then Democrats and Republicans are 4-4, actually, since Gerald Ford was never elected (although I'm sure that a textbook will soon be written claiming that he was).

Historically, its the Republicans who are doing poorly for a "party in power".

Their chief executive, as a wartime president, only managed 51% of the vote against a weak opponent.

Their hold on Congress is shakey at best.

Only 16 seats need to change hands in 2006 to elect Speaker Pelosi. And considering that Congress' approval rating has sunk to 34% in the wake of the Schiavo overreach, this is not out of the question. And while the Democrats do not have a realistic shot of taking back the Senate in 06, there are numerous freshman and vunerable Republicans up in 08. Their lead in State Legislative Seats has all but vanished. And thier lead in governorships is also shrinking, as Democrats have recently elected governor in Montana and Wyoming (of all places).

Compare this to the Democrats in 1964. We held 68 of the Senates 100 seat...a filibuster-proof majority. In the House, Dems held 259 seats, compared to 176 for the GOP.

If you watch Fox News enough, I imagine that one would think that the Democratic Party is going the way of the Whigs. But the Dems are very much alive.

As far as the Presidential Record is concerned, we must remember that Democrats have historically had the advantage in Congressional elections, where majorities are decided more on a popular breakdown. The electoral college, which amplifies the political heft of states like Mississippi, Alabama, Idaho, and Nebraska, is an institutional buffer to the party that caters to those states...the GOP.

Ann Coulter is a loon.

Clinton '08

Hillary Rodham that is...

Xanatos I'm so glad that you are at Dartmouth, if accepted I will be proud to go to a school with a person like you

Hillary is lucifer on wheels

What about Frist? He's genuine, moderate, brilliant, etc

This is what I've learned from the whole Terri Schiavo ordeal:

I will get a living will and demand I be left on life support as long as possible.

You can't trust a husband. I don't trust a thing Michael Schiavo one bit. Remember Scott Peterson?

80% (according to CNN) of Americans approve of starving a helpless human being to death. That is sad.

Yes...Scott Peterson is a murderer and a husband, therefore all husbands are murderers. Witches burn and so does wood, so therefore witches are made of wood. That about sums up the logical bridge that you just made. And I got news for you, 80% of Americans support a human being DYING WITH DIGNITY, instead of being left the way she is, with tubes all over her and people arguing over her fate. She doesn't even feel it, she is literally a vegetable. It's very sad, it's very unfortunate, but that's the way it is and there's nothing anyone short of maybe Captain Planet can do. Yes, getting a living will is a very good idea and if you want to, you can indicate in your living will that you want to be kept alive as long as possible. But that doesn't mean that you can make someone else also be kept alive as long as possible, especially if the closest evidence to any sort of will at all (verbal communication to her husband and I think sister or something before she collapsed) indicates that they would not want this. This case is unfortunate and I'm sure everyone wishes they could go back in time and play it out differently, but that doesn't mean that you can draw silly generalizations the way you just did.

As for Frist, I don't honestly know what his positions are and where he lines up in the Republican pantheon (I mean anyone can look moderate compared to Rick Santorum) but the bottom line is he is a Republican; the time for compromise is LONG past. As long as the Republicans hold the White House, the nuts will have an opening into screwing up the country. Therefore, no Republicans.

I hope I come to Dartmouth so I can meet you Xanatos.

We'll be anglophiles together sipping tea at 4:00 arguing over politics.

looks to the stars
Dartmouth.....

Have you seen the picture of her leaning on Joseph McCarthy's Headstone? It's great...

I see no problem with Republicans
Although I am very much in the center politically, i like finding ppl to the right & left & messing with them =)

Hopefully I will see you all in Hanover

All in good fun.

She'll get my vote... and maybe I'll be lucky enough to work on her campaign, to. :D

I don't see her winning any southern state. to them she's the epitome of the baby killin loose sexual antichrist demon come to eat their kids

Hillary's campaign will be crushed by high expectations. The dem nominee is gonna be someone we've never heard of before.

I'm so tired of talking about 2008! We just got done with 2004! raaaaaar!

Eh, the Dems are just eager to prove they haven't lost it completely. Which they will prove just the opposite of if they realistically think Hillary Clinton can win. meh.

You are still on baby bird...amazing

Hilliary can win, if she hires the right image and word smiths

"Dems are just eager to prove they haven't lost it completely"

republicans should be so eager, considering that 68% of White EVANGELICALS disaprove of congress intervening on Terri's behalf

please, one issue is not going to decide an election.

especially the presidential election, if anything it might affect Congress's election in a minor fashion

The Schiavo issue is part of a greater issue. The arrogance and overreach of the Republican Congress is going to the THE issue in 2006, unless there is some terrorist attack or something of that nature. The "drunk with power" line is going to be getting a lot of use in the next year and a half.
