What do you guys think of Columbia's homepage? =)

I think Columbia's homepage needs an update aesthetically. It's a tad bland imo. Anyone else think so? Or does no one care? ;)

www.columbia.edu

Hahah MIT definitely has the most pleasing website with all it's colors and whatnot. Princeton's orange theme is quite nice and Penn's is not bad either.

www.mit.edu
www.princeton.edu
www.upenn.edu

Strange, I really like Columbia's site design and layout.

Columbia's site is dull, just like its campus.

I like the site because it is very easy to use as compared to, say, Carnegie Mellon's website ><.

Strange. I would rank them as:
Princeton
Penn
Columbia
MIT

I'll rate them as: Columbia, MIT, UPenn, Princeton

If Columbia had had an ugly website, I wouldn't have applied. (; Maybe.. but seriously I have this thing about websites. If they aren't relatively good-looking (or at least professional-looking) then I won't trust it.

MIT's is oddly rather amateur-ish to me, from the ten seconds I took to look at the front page, hahah

Princeton's looks damn good. Should have applied

I remember having some trouble navigating the UPenn site when I was researching it junior year, and I don't like the colors nearly as much as I like Columbia's. MIT's is cool, but I still like Columbia's. I just wish the top banner wasn't so grainy.

I like Yale's best. I also like the new pic on Columbia's site. It's more New Yorky.

the pics on columbia's website are in a rotation. it selects a different one every page load.

Cornell, by far, has the best website of any Ivy League school that I have seen. http://www.cornell.edu/ It's so pretty!

MIT's website is most pleasing to me.

Yea i agree. MIT's prospective students page looks just Fun. Googlish almost. Columbia's is just. Eh.

MIT

Princeton

UPenn

On the other hand... by far the WORST WORST WORST webpage out there--- seriously no bias, www.harvard.edu
You'd think they could choose a color that doesnt remind you of a bad burrito you ate three days ago- exiting.

I'm a senior and when I got to Columbia, the website looked like this:

http://www.columbia.edu/acis/history/cu-home-kermit.jpg

They created this "new" website and launched it in Spring 2004 after a lot of planning and discussing. I was pretty disappointed.

Princeton redid their website at pretty much the same time, it used to be incredibly ugly. Cornell redid there's a little while later (I like it), and Yale's a little after that (underwhelming.)

Later on I met with some of the designers while working on another project, and they told me that how the site would look when projected onto a screen during presentations was a major consideration. I blinked a few times and let that sink in.

maybe they should make redesigning the columbia website a gateway project....i'm sure that'd make it awesome....

for those of you who aren't current columbia students (or are in CC), that was complete sarcasm

gateway sucks so much

columbia's website i feel is pretty easy to navigate, i find that to be pretty important.....and if you look at something long enough (for four years by the time your a senior for example) you'll end up getting used to or even liking it.

I had totally forgotten that the website was different freshman year....****, that was a terrible website!

As a student, you can submit photos for the front page rotation...they're usually happy to use them. That's pretty cool.

columbia2007 is correct. In fact, some of the best slideshow photos were taken by students.

The website designers make some awful decisions on photos of their own (which they also put up). During December, and exams time, they put up two pictures of students working in the library. At least one of them looks incredibly tired and worn out. Great choice!
