First of all, I know this post’s title might be a bit of an exaggeration,
but I have been feeling that Penn’s website lacks compared to
other Ivies and top notch schools…
(for example, let’s compare it to Brown’s and Princeton’s)

Myself is going to be attending Penn this fall,
and I am extremely looking forward to it.

However, as an international student,
the university’s website has been my only “connection” w/ the university
And, the website is very outdated
with many quotes that are almost ten years ago!

Maybe I am too much of a visual person,
but for most students, and especially for international students,
the university’s website is the very first thing
that students actually get to learn about the place…

Is Penn planning to improve its website?
or if I go to Penn, can I report my concern to the office?

I personally thought that the Penn website is decent, although deep internal parts of it are outdated. However, in general it serves it purpose.

If you can think of improvements, I'm sure someone at Penn would be willing to hear them. I'm sure a good part is designed by students (can someone confirm this?) and you can personally take the initiative to tweak things.

If you want to see a website that's a little subpar to my standards, you should see Dartmouth's and maybe Harvard's...of course, this is no reflection of the academic quality of these schools. It's just that these websites aren't so great...

I think Harvard's is the worst. Besides that it's ugly. But really, I always struggle to find what I need there.

I second MIT as well. Oh, it's fancy with pretty colors and all this sweet stuff- but it's so unncesary. There website is very hard to navigate. I always have to click a million links to find what I want.

As a reference for people who have trouble finding what they need from a website (due to bad layouts, etc) you could try google's advanced search options. For example, if you wanted to search Penn's website for something obscure, say Matlab, a math related software, you would type this into google:

site:upenn.edu Matlab

This will give all known references to Matlab in the domain upenn.edu

I think Penn's website is really good compared to some schools. You just have to know how to navigate a website to find what you want. Let Penn know though, maybe they'll change it. They're not going to do anything about it if you don't do something first.

Penn's site's okay, in my opinion. I didn't used to like it but they've updated recently. Harvard's is terrible. I like Boston College's, personally. Good colors.

"Myself is" very pleased with Penn's website.
Or, better yet, I AM pleased with Penn's website. It's really easy to locate everything you need. It might take some getting used to, but it's sufficient.

Wow, a lot of posts ..
What I meant was that Penn's website is easy to locate
but I find it visually not really appealing..

If you look at Penn's brochures and guides,
they are amazingly well laid out and beautiful..
But, penn website? I don't really think so..

For exmaple, beautiful Penn's campus pictures
can be bigger and clearer (how come all the campus pics and
building pics are puny?)
and some department sites can be improved...
(ex. IR department, Mathematics department)

And I will definitely report my cocern to the office,
or hopefully start up my own project regarding this matter!

ps. by the way, what is the OP?

In addition, I strongly feel that a small thing like this does matter
If Penn has a world-class education,
then why not bring up its website to the same level?

Wow...just wow. If you're actually starting to doubt Penn's academic quality and prestige because of some department websites (which are maintained more by the departments themselves, not the university), then maybe you should look elsewhere.

And your complaints about a lack of campus pics are unjustified...the virtual tour is pretty good. Many schools don't even have an online tour.

No, I did not say I doubt the university's quality..
I strongly feel Penn's acadmia is "world-class" as stated...

Please don't get me wrong,
I love Penn and its my first choice, and pinnacle of my dreams
I am just expressing my opinion,
and want to know what others think about it..

I think the admissions website is what the OP is referring to, with pictures and quotes from people who graduated a while ago. It's pretty out of date.

off topic, but i second on the quality of the MIT site. the home page changes every day, updating you on important MIT discoveries, etc, and it has links to MIT people's blogs.
