What do you guys think of my freshmen classes? - Enrolled at Local University.

EMERGENCE GLOBAL SOCIETY - HIS 1000C - 129

PUBLIC SPEAKING COLL STU - SPE 1000C - 311

PERS. ON CHRISTIANITY - THE 1000C - 198

DISCOVER NEW YORK - DNY 1000C - 511

PRE-CALC WITH BUS APPLIC - MTH 1310C - 0

Thoughts?

Are we allowed to change professors in college?

Have fun. It looks very easy.

why wouldn’t you be allowed?

“Discover New York?”
It looks like a decent schedule…

If you have ANY thought of transferring to a different college (as local may not always be a students first choice, at least in my case), I suggest a more rigorous schedule. Your classes seem very easy, you may even get bored.

Earlygrad797: I am prohibited from taking upper level classes until my gen. ed. req. are out of the way.

Can you not take intro math and sciences?

Business pre-calc is probably an intro math class.

Dang, that looks easy…maybe add a science class??
Of course you can change profs.

It looks like you’re up for an incredibly easy semester. Have you thought about tackling some more challenging courses?

Yes. However, the policy states that underclassmen have yet to obtain the option of registering for challenging classes. I might have to wait until my second semester.

But from what I’ve heard, about two of my professors seem demanding.

Challenging courses can include more classes in the sciences and mathematics. If you are enrolled in a university, there’s no reason to be taking a course in “pre-calculus”. It’s a course that summarizes your high school mathematics education – you should be taking introductory calculus or statistics as a college freshman.

The class includes applied business-topics. I took a math and science placement exam on the campus and I did not make it into Calculus. I am now planning to retake the class for an A. I don’t have much choice to make academic alternations.

I was also tested into General Chemistry, but I refused it since I’m not going into any medical fields. It’s also one of my weaker subjects. However, I think I may be viable for Biology and Astronomy.

What’s your major?

Don’t take classes you don’t want to take because people are telling you to ‘challenge yourself’. I have a pretty easy load my first semester and I’m not going to go whine about it. Use it as an opportunity to have a lot of fun and get acquainted with your new life. A 4 hour lecture with a 2 hour lab would quickly stomp that into the ground (lucky for me I have AP Bio lab credit that gets me out of my science AND lab req).

Currently undecided with a possiblity of a business field/ Liberal Arts/ or something in Political Studies.

Thanks for the laugh, OP, now what are you really taking?

If these are all gen ed requirements, then I don’t see a problem. It’s not the most challenging semester, but why overextend yourself your first semester anyway? Seconding crazyday, don’t completely change your schedule just because people on here say it’s not challenging enough. There’s no problem with getting the gen ed requirements out of the way, so you can take more challenging classes later.

Who are you to tell someone what they should or shouldn’t take? People on these boards always act like if you aren’t taking 400-level Physics or some kind of abstract Mathematics, you’re an idiot and should be belittled for it. Students shouldn’t take a course that they’re not ready for or didn’t test into. It’s good to challenge yourself, but putting yourself in a situation where you would struggle is what would be stupid. [/rant]

To answer the OP’s question, your schedule doesn’t look too hard, but some of the course titles are ambiguous so I don’t know what they entail. As long as you’re course load puts you on the path to where you want to be, take what you want to take.

As long as you’re fulfilling general education requirements then you should be fine. These classes are just different then what people typically take  But some schools offer really…unique general education classes. People are just jealous that they don’t get to take an awesome class like Discover New York!
