What do you think? All I really need it for is my schoolwork and basic surfing around...I am not a gamer or anything like that.

I know it has Vista but I think I can get used to that. I am really happy overall with my current HP laptop, although it has XP rather than Vista.

It looks like a pretty good deal. I personally would (and did) go with a Core 2 Duo over a Turion, but otherwise this looks like a pretty solid computer. 3 gig's of RAM is nice, as is 160 gb hard disk. The built-in Bluetooth is nice if it's something you'll use, as is the DVD-burner. The lightscribe thing looks pretty neat, but I don't know much about it. If I'm reading the product description correctly, it looks like it has a really good graphics card (at least for this price range) - I'm surprised that's not a main bullet point.

i got a dv2315nr last year, pretty similar but a 14.1" screen and has a TL-56. worked great for about 8 months, then started to shut off and sometimes didn't want to turn back on. looked online, the motherboard was recalled. i had a horrible CS experience(was hung up on, then had a "manager" tell me that it was out of warrantee...it wasn't, and it was recalled...and it took them over a month to get it back to me after i sent it in, and it was sent fedex next day priority, so it wasn't shipping)

works great again. i'd say good computers, bad CS.

You could probably figure it out yourself.
Do you know how to do a clean install of Vista? That's probably useful since computers usually come bundled with a lot of "bloatware" when you get them and they slow down the start up and performance.

It's hard as hell to get a clean install of Vista these days, now that Microsoft apparently isn't selling Anytime Upgrade discs anymore. All you get from the laptop manufacturer are recovery discs that come preloaded with all the junk software.

You can do a clean install. On my computer at least all you had to do was remove the disc when it told you to insert the driver disc. Then you had a clean install of Vista, you just needed to instal any of th drivers you wanted yourself.

Chipmonkey, I think you're talking about purchasing Vista from a store and installing it on an already clean computer.

When you buy a new computer from a company such as HP or Dell, they ship it preinstalled with Vista, but also with a bunch of trial or otherwise useless software. The only way to completely get rid of it is with a clean install, and Windows/PC manufacturers are making it increasingly difficult to accomplish this.

Hey everyone, I just wanted to update for people who read the archives.

I ended up buying the computer - although by the time I had saved the money for it, the model was the dv6910us instead of dv6810us. I have had it for a couple of months now and it is working beautifully. I am really happy with the HP brand and the Vista doesn't seem too bad. I ended up paying $600, and it was worth every penny.
