Hi -- I asked this question on the Tufts board also. I'm thinking about Cornell, Michigan, RPI, UCSD, JHU, Duke, and Boston University for biomedical engineering. I really like Tufts size and location though and wanted to get some feedback on Tufts engineering. Small class sizes and an undergrad focus is pretty appealing to me. I'm not sure what to make of Tufts low (or high depending on how you look at it, heh) engineering rankings though. What's the scoop?

waits for heated flamebait responses

These threads inevitably end up in an argument, 90% of the time. I have my own opinion of the matter (you can check my post history and realize that 99% of my posts are pro-Tufts), and I've gotten my fair share of defending the engineering school from vicious CC posters!

what does that mean?

You'll see once some notable posters see the title of this thread seeking blood.

Drop me a PM or an email - I'm a Tufts engineering grad - but I'm done trying to defend my school from people who find it inferiour to UMass Boston.

same. Aries and I have been doing this for two years, and to be honest, we're burnt out saying the same things over and over again to new people every year.

Ariesathena and Snuffles -- thanks for the responses. I'm sure you have good things to say about Tufts engineering and while its not surprising, its good to know that Tufts people hold their eng. school in high regard. It would be nice to hear from others as well. Anyone? My Dad is an executive (former engineer) at a very, very large company in upstate NY and is discouraging me from applying to Tufts because his firm doesn't recruit at Tufts. I'm trying to convince him that Tufts is a smaller school and that is likely why he's never encountered any Tufts engineering grads!

There are about 180 engineering graduates every year - very small number compared to other engineering schools. Hence the lack of recruiting. Despite that, all of the Tufts engineers I know are in grad school or have very respectable jobs.

JHU is number 1 for bio med

Discussion about "engineering" in general does not apply to a non-traditional engineering discipline like biomedical engineering in any case.

Yup, I realize biomedical engineering is a pretty new field. Was also considering going the EE route because not all of the schools I'm considering offer BME degrees. What do you think about Tufts engineering in general, Rogracer?

Interesting. Nobody other than Tufts students have anything to say about its engineering programs. Ugh.

its a great school...of course, i recommend you visit first (im sure you can afford it). The Engineers are a close knit group but not entirely secluded to science...the liberal arts college is very open to them, which is a good thing.
