That it only lasted 4 years.
Our school is so big and famous with football that eveything else is ignored.
We have wonderful, well-funded engineering complexes and research facilities but no one knows about it.
“That it’s not that different from high school.”
Bingo! College is basically a larger version of high school, and I’ve been more miserable during college than high school. Usually, that’s the other way around, so let that sink in for a second. Anyway, there seems to be just as high of a proportion of cliques, mean girls, and frat bro jocks on my campus. Arguably higher than high school, at least for me. Most friendship groups are solidified by the end of freshman year and tend to stay together through graduation if not longer. Just like you have to find a declare your major by your junior year, which I am, you also have to declare a permanent “clique” by then. If not then you’re basically screwed. Coming from someone who’s practically been friendless since kingearten, I know what being outside the inner circle looks like. The worst part of this, though, is that you’re sort of expected to be two-faced as if it’s a game, even as a male. You pretty much have to pretend everything is hunky dory or else your friends tend to turn on you. Talk about fairweather friends. Even as someone who’s friendless I know that I have to be a Stepford Smiler to get anywhere on campus (even though I’m not a good actor).
Unsupportive faculty.
