the 2005-06 calender is out and according to it, we have holidays from oct 10-14 and nov 23-28. so will you guys be staying on campus or going back home? does it cost extra to stay on campus during such holidays?

I'll be home during the vacations. It's not a long walk home. I'll probably just bum around Boston. My parents are on the same schedule, so travel might be an option too.

The regular dorms are open on Columbus Day and Veterans Day holidays. They are NOT open over Thanksgiving and the winter recess...or spring break. When the dorms are open it does not cost extra to stay there. When they are closed you are not allowed to stay there. BU does have an arrangement for international students (something with a hotel) and those students can stay in Boston at a hotel...but not in the dorm. Apartment style housing IS open during break for those who live there.

I'm an intl student, so i'll prolly live in those hotels you just mentioned. but what about those living say somewhere in Cal or Texas? as i understand, the plane fare (one way) is around $500 to LA from Boston. so will kids staying in LA spend $1000 on plane fare just for a 5 day holiday? whew! that'll lighten up pockets considerably!

The coast to coast plane fare is considerably cheaper than $1000, especially with carriers like Jet Blue.

For people who live far away, if they don't want to spend money on plane fare, they can also go home with a friend who lives closer to Boston.

So wait.... the dorms are closed but we still have all our stuff in there? Grr.... I really don't want to go home over breaks because the whole college experience is about me getting away from home... grr, this sucks.

Most college dorms close during the breaks. Don't you think that you would want to get out of Boston in December-- that is, if the airport isn't snowed in? Thanksgiving break IS too short for a coast to coast trip. My cousin lives near Stamford, CT so my S may go there for Thanksgiving. I bet you'll have a friend from the area who'll let you come home with him for the holiday

It's nowhere near 1000 dollars to fly from coast to coast. I've gotten tickets to Cali for 250-350 from Florida. I fly to Boston from Florida for 130-200(Those are round trip costs)

We just flew coast to coast for $313 round trip. Also, for those who are far away and can't or don't want to go home for the shorter vacations, friends sometimes bring others home. We had two of DS's friends here for part of the spring break. Both were Californians.

I'll be at Earlham College visiting my girlfriend.

oh $313 isn't bad for a coast to coast trip. i have relatives in cali and houston, so i'll prolly go there during the holidays.
