I would like to go to graduate school in something related to virology/immunology. In time, I will launch a secret underground biomedical research lair beneath the Amazon. I will use a pharmaceutical operation called the Umbrella Corp as a front.

I got a degree in economics from UCLA in June '10 and then worked for 6 months doing entry level accounting stuff for an asset management company in San Francisco’s financial district. I just gave my 2 week notice to leave that job and I’m moving to the rural area of central California to help manage a family agriculture/ranching/farming business.

I see my degree as just one step in progressing through life. I don’t see what I’m doing now as “using my degree” any more than what I’m doing now is using my high school or middle school education. My education and experiences are just part of who I am.

I haven’t decided yet if I’m going to go straight into an engineering field after my engineering degree, or pursue graduate study. If I pursue graduate study, there are a ton of different directions I could see myself moving in—systems analysis, environmental science/policy/law, even potentially education. I’d really like the opportunity to join Teach for America after my BS, if I can make it fit with my wife’s plans for grad school.

I plan to major in psych and minor in neuroscience or cognitive science then go to grad school for behavioral neuroscience or neuropsych. Ideally I want to study human behavior and do research. Perhaps when I’m old and gray ill resort to teaching

My dream job however is working for the fbi (you know like in criminal minds) but that’s just wishful thinking lmao

@jaynami – One of my dream jobs is also working for the FBI. I’d love to do the job Garcia does (and being a profiler seems like it would be fun too.)

None of my dream careers (author, screenwriter/director, singer) require a college degree, so if I end up going to college, I’ll probably use my degree for a backup career in either journalism or teaching. :)

I used to want to become an ESL teacher or a speech pathologist. I wanted to get a linguistics degree as a foundation for these jobs (plus linguistics is interesting to me). Right now, however, I’m convinced I rather want to go into PR or journalism. I hope I get to add/switch to Media Studies at Berkeley. The major sounds really flexible which is what intrigues me the most. I’m not even thinking of grad school right now, lol.

^I might be applying to Media Studies too when I apply as a transfer this coming fall. But I’ve also heard that journalism/communications/media majors are actually often at a disadvantage when it comes to getting actual jobs in the industry because employers tend to prefer that their reporters have a degree in a subject area unrelated to journalism. For example, a newspaper would probably be more inclined to hire someone with a political science degree to write about politics or a film theory degree to write about entertainment than to hire someone with a general degree in journalism or media.

Congrats on Berkeley, by the way! I remember reading that it was your dream school to transfer to. :D

Law School or Grad school Fall 2013

Thanks! Yeah, Berkeley is my dream school. I can’t believe I actually get to go there in fall. It’s still so surreal!
As for the Media Studies major, I don’t just want major in it because I think it’ll be good job preparation for me, I actually love learning and talking about the various types of media. Ever since I took a class on the media (after I applied) I was convinced that it is something I would like to major in. I still love linguistics though too! I’m hoping I can pull off a double major to get the best of both worlds ;).

Med school…so my degree is irrelevant :)

@deanzatransfer: Ah, I see! That definitely makes sense. Good luck with the double major! I haven’t taken any media study classes yet, but it does sound right up my alley too, interest-wise. But I’ll probably end up majoring in American Studies because it covers more topics in American culture and there are a lot of media study classes in that major too. :)

I’m going to set it on fire.

^ best answer thus far! lol =)

My ultimate goal is to obtain a tenured professorship to teach and research in a subject that will become my life passion…but there are way too many potential candidates for that field so I’m in a mini existentialist crisis for graduate school.
