What do you think about early action at Yale, UChi, or Stanford for me? Please...?

Hey all,

I think I am going to apply early action because the three schools at the top of my list all have the option available. Just to note (from reading a few threads, someone always seems to ask if the person asking understands you can only apply to one), I know I will only be applying to one of the dream schools.

What do you think my chances are if I apply single choice early action to either Yale, UChicago, or Stanford.

*Ranked in the top 20 of high schools debaters nationwide, placed well in tournaments hosted by schools like Harvard and Yale. In terms of leadership skills and such, I have been captain of my high school team since I was a freshman and was elected president for my senior year. This activity has also provided some exciting summer experiences as I have attended debate camps for 3 week sessions before my junior and senior years. This year, I am going to volunteer at a camp to teach debate to underprivileged kids for a week during the summer.

That's about all I can remember off the top of my head. Please tell me, honestly, what you think my choices are if I apply single choice to one of the three schools listed. Thanks for the help, this will certainly be a factor in deciding which I apply to!

Bump/ I problem should also add that I am interested in majoring in political science or philosophy (hence UChi).

hmm yale and stanford are high reaches for you, since you don't have any hook. I think you stand a chance at UChicago.

can i check out this sports blog?

bump it up

UChicago is non restrictive EA. i say apply to that and flip a coin for yale/stanford. (or just somehow pick between the two. visit and see which one you like better)
having 2 (UChicago & something else) is better than 1 :]

Thanks for the advice pineapple. I didn't know that...it certainly makes the early application process easier.

Bump it up

Can I can a little more help from anyone in analyzing my chances at these schools? It would really help!

So were you in out rounds at the Harvard and Yale tournament? If so which round, this is something that will add to your application if explained in detail. Have you gone to any state or national competitions that you qualify for: TOC, NFL, NCFL... You should really elaborate on your debate exprerience seeing that you seem very passionate about it.

Your SAT : 2170 ~ very good score. Do you think that you could increase it say maybe 100 points ... if so retake it .. but if not.. I wouldn't retake it.

I think that a chance for you right now is premature because of the fact that you don't have SAT2's yet. However, I think that you should apply to either Stanford or Yale because I believe that you'll stand a good chance at UChi by waiting to apply seeing that is your number one choice.

I would apply to Yale early.

What attracted you to Stanford ? It's an amazing school but I don't know if it is the best fit for your major based on your interests.

bump:

re:owlie.

A) Sorry, I didn't know how well the CC community knew the debate world. I qualified to CFLs freshman and sophomore year, NFLs and TOC junior year. I also have done well at a lot of tournaments beyond Yale and Harvard, I just pointed those out because the name value makes it look to significant to most people. I went to quarters at both though.

B) Part of the reason Stanford is listed is the result of a relatively high level of indecisiveness in terms of my prospective major. I have some other fields in mind that jive well with Stanford (outside of the outstanding campus)

While UChi is non-restrictive EA, Yale and Stanford are single-choice EA, so you wouldn't be able to apply to two schools because with SCEA you're only allowed to apply to the one you choose, though you are still not obligated to go there once accepted
